The Avett Brothers are also playing D.C. that Friday. Decisions, decisions...
Re: Two night stand, 9:30 Club in DC: 2/18-19
I will certainly make those shows (and offer myself up for protecting filming operations). These shows (right in my backyard) will make it harder to convince the wife that I need an Athens 'fix' the month before, though. Mums the word.

Never been in that part of DC - any hotels nearby, and is it in a place where a drunken debauched reveler could stumble to his room without fear of bodily harm?

I'm considering this one. I've been meaning to get to DC for awhile.
About 40% odds that I can pull it off though

I have lived in DC for almost 15 years and have only eaten there once. The place is way over rated.

Where would I look for a place to stay if I can manage this? Looks like the airfare is do-able. Any suggestions?

Same here. $136RT sounds doable to me as well.
Someone asked earlier. Is this a decent area of town to wander around at night?
for a few hours, I'm 19 years old and rock and roll is the only thing that matters.

Last time Penny, Bill, me, CG, BC, and Mr. and Mrs. karmadog all stayed at the Morrison Clark hotel, which was a fairly nice place, maybe a 5-6 minute cab ride (or Joe Oz van ride ) from the 9:30 Club, and cost $89/night. I could see doing that again.

not really no it is not, pre-game, cool bar/restaurant, club across the street. Roaming streets after shows no, get in your cab, take the metro, but walking around not the best area for that.

Ugh! That hotel is $209 per night on those dates! Geez, wonder what is up with that?

I don't know if this helps, but there's a Clarion Inn in Oxon Hill, Md that has rooms for $139. It's about a 20 minute ride to the 9:30 (not in rush hour). This hotel is on my way to the shows and I can tote up to 4 back & forth each night.

FWIW, the Quality Inn in College Park http://www.qismd.com/ is just a few Metro stops away and has rooms for less than $100/night for that weekend.

Bump for lodging: CG booked us at the Quincy Hotel, for which she got a hotels.com rate of $89. I hope this one's less dodgy than our last DC hotel, where they told us at check-in not to answer the door if someone knocks.

That's a nice place. Lots of food in the area too (sushi... mmmm).

The Gallery isn't a bad hotel. It's in my neighborhood, Adams Morgan and my parents have stayed there. It's about 10 blocks from the 9:30 club but in the good direction that takes you up U Street/Florida Ave past all the clubs and restaurants. It's walkable and going in the direction of Adams Morgan you should feel safe. Adams Morgan is party central in DC now, it has all the trendy bars, clubs and restaurants.

Just booked at the Quincy as well. I usually stay at the Hampton Inn on Mass ave. when I go to the 9:30 but it was crazy overpriced this time around. What is going on in DC that weekend (besides the Rock Show) that the hotels are so jacked up?
Looks like I'm going to have to break down and hit Ben's Chili Bowl this time. Kristen is jacked up to go there since she saw it on Man v. Food.

Re: Two night stand, 9:30 Club in DC: 2/18-19
Here is a link to the hotel: http://www.thequincy.com/
I got the $89 rate by booking via http://www.hotels.com
You pay for it up front, but if you need to cancel, you can get your money back as long as you cancel before 3 pm one day before you are scheduled to arrive.
$28 per night for parking is not included in this rate. Scam!
This weekend is also President's Day Weekend, we don't happen to get that Monday off, but a lot of other people do. I wonder if that is what is causing the rates to go up? Bill reminded me of this when I first started looking ar rates and was having trouble finding something.
Man vs Food steered us well in Richmond, but alas, not so much in DC. Ben's was overrated, or so I'm told, I just got a milkshake as I'm not a chili fan.
Looking forward to these shows!
