Message from Patterson about Wednesday night in Athens...

Post by Jenn »

Y'ALL:

As you might have noticed, I haven't been playing many solo shows at all
this year.
I've been really busy with the band, touring behind The Big To-Do and
working on the completion of Go-Go Boots.
I tend to do the solo shows when the band is taking time off or doing
other things.
I was, however asked to play a benefit concert for Russell Edwards,
who is running for our town's seat in The House of Representatives in
this upcoming election.
He is running against Paul Broun, who just might be the worst
Congressman in all of Washington DC (and that's saying a lot).

Athens GA is historically a politically progressive town (a blue dot)
in one of the most conservative "red" states in the country.
Therefore, a few years ago, The Republicans who run things around here
re-drew our district so that we shared votes with ultra-conservative
(and much bigger) Augusta down the road.
Hence we now have Paul Broun as our 'so-called' Representative.
I say 'so-called' because he doesn't seem to share the values of most
of the citizenry of our town.
He is a 'Birther' and has called President Obama a Socialist. He has
views so far to the right of mainstream America that even his own
Father disavowed his politics.
(Paul Broun Sr. was a moderate, who did much to help our town. Our
Highway loop is named in his honor).

I will be playing at a club in downtown Athens called Last Call. My
set will be at 11pm although there is much entertainment occurring
before and after me (The Show begins at 9pm).
I will be playing solo acoustic and will probably play a cross
section of old and new material from DBT as well as solo material.

Russell Edwards is young, energetic and very smart.
He is a former school teacher, basketball coach and a University of
Georgia Law School Graduate.
He cares about Athens and our future.
He is also facing a very steep uphill battle, as Paul Broun is very
well financed and as I've said has a lot of votes from Augusta and the
surrounding rural counties.
I will be proudly pulling the lever on Russell Edwards' behalf and
urge my fellow Athenians to do the same.

All great change begins at the grassroots and local level.
We need someone in DC who actually cares about our community and it's
ideals.

See you out there.
Best Always,
Patterson Hood

Eric Cantor represents my district. He sucks but at least he's not a birther or a witch :D

Very enjoyable, albeit short, show last night from Patterson. Set list was;

Nine bullets
Everybody needs love
Sinkhole
Two daughters and a beautiful wife
Daddy needs a drink (dedicated to his wife)
This fucking job
Uncle disney
Buckets of mercy

I feel as if i have forgotten one, but there was at least one taper there so you'll be able to fill in any gap from them soon hopefully.

One of the enjoyable moments of the evening was after Patterson discussing the state of the country having been set in motion years ago, someone from the back yelled out "Patterson for president", to which he commented that the guy in charge now is very intelligent and even he's having problems, so there is no way he would want the job.
