Re: Books Thread

I thought Mr Mercedes was OK---a nice change of pace. Out of King's writings over the past five years or so, I think 11/22/63 was my favorite.

Just finished Trevanian's Incident at Twenty-Mile that I very much enjoyed and just started Summer of Katya.

Re: 30 Years of Southern Culture On the Skids

Still have the original Too Much Pork For Just One Fork on the Moist label. I got that one, and somewhere around here I have the original Santo single and Pink Bismuth EP. I saw them at an outdoor festival in Auburn, AL, in about 1990 or so and then followed them for several years back before they ...

Re: The Shed Maryville,TN 7/18!!!

The show definitely seemed short, but it was well worth the zip up to Tennessee and zip back down to Alabama. It was one hell of a set & I met some really nice folks.

A woman DeKalb County, Alabama, deputies say rode a stolen horse to burglarize a store is currently only facing alcohol-related charges, but more charges may be on the way. Re: October & November tour dates

Cool. The Birmingham date is on a weekend when I'm in town! Promo video for Cask & Drum says DBT will have a 90 minute set. Here's an article from local paper about Cask & Drum for anyone interested: http://www.al.com/entertainment/index.ssf/2014/07/birminghams_cask_drum_announce_2.html

Re: Outsiders perspective of all this

So, she volunteered to be a sober driver (not all that fun for the driver) to go see a band she knows nothing about (dicey at best whether you'll like a band you've never heard) and showed up all put together with a dress on. From your description of the whole event, there's a pretty decent possibil...

Re: Favorite 3 from Hood Cooley Isbell 6/15/14????

I'd do better at picking a top 25. This show had the same jaw-dropping qualities as the time I saw Springsteen, first time I saw Willie Nelson, last couple of times I've seen Neil Young, and the times I've seen Tom Waits. I enjoyed every second of every song. I was grinning like Matt Patton the whol...

Re: The Shed Maryville,TN 7/18!!!

I bought my ticket yesterday. I'm going to be of town a lot this fall* and was worried I may be gone when they come through Birmingham, so I figured I'd rather make a road trip to potentially see them twice this time around instead of risking not catching them at all. *Seems like every time I have t...

In fairness to your daughter, her "autograph" isn't significantly less legible than Cooley/Hood/Isbell's. Maybe you could just pass it off as one of theirs. :P

Re: Cooley, Hood and Isbell together for Terry Pace Benefit

At one point (had to be in the 2nd half of the show 'cause that's all i caught) Patterson was talking about how the show was totally unplanned and somebody shouted a request and Patterson said something like "except that one; we definitely planned on not playing that one, no we're not gonna pl...

Re: Cooley, Hood and Isbell together for Terry Pace Benefit

8 hours ago, I was still driving back home. At work now and feel like total crap. 1000% worth it. This show was truly special. I got in the car to drive home and had to turn off the radio for the two and a half hour drive ---I wanted to hold on to the echoes in my mind for a little longer. ETA---I s...

Medically necessary fake boobs are completely fine, but beyond that, real boobs that aren't "perfect" are much more perfect than manmade.

Re: Newbies--Introduce yourselves

I'm a newbie poster (but longtime occasional lurker) and am here to introduce myself as instructed. I'm in Birmingham. I like DBT. I like ice cold beer on a hot afternoon. I like watching the sun come up over the interstate or even better, a forest trail. I don't like fake suntans, fake house plants...
