Re: Artist Of The Week 09/23/2013 Drivin' 'N' 'Cryin"

I hope this makes a ton of money for Kevn and the guys, as they've certainly earned it. I also kind of hope I never hear it.

Kevn's started his August residency at City Winery. I missed this week's, but he's got Lenny Kaye with him next week and Aaron Lee Tasjan and Jon Latam the week after that.

Re: Artist of the Week 6/25/2012 Lee Bains III & The Glory F

I went to see John Moreland (great, of course) Friday night and Lee was in the crowd. I spoke to him before the show started and told him how much I loved the new record. I swear to God he has got to be the nicest guy on the planet. It's always a plus when people who make art you like also seem to b...

I liked seeing that mention of the old Merle Haggard birthday shows at the 40 Watt. That was the first time I ever saw DBT.

Re: No Cell Phone Policies At Shows

I went to see Dave Chappelle a couple of weeks ago and everyone who had a phone had to lock it in a soft case as you entered the venue. You kept it with you, and they unlocked them for you on the way out. I was completely cool with it. He got so make sure his performance was captured only as he inte...

Re: R.I.P. Col. Bruce Hampton

The Colonel had been playing his Thursday night residency about a mile from my house at The Vista Room. I went a handful of times but wish I'd gone more. Always easy to wish that in retrospect. I never had a bad time seeing him play music or chatting with him outside a venue. RIP, Bruce. We must be...

Had to make several trips between Atl and Valdosta in a short period of time a couple weeks ago. During that stretch, I discovered this radio station in Macon. They caught my attention when I was tuning through the stations and heard Hayes Carll. I kept listening and heard DBT, Isbell, Gram Parsons,...

Re: Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers 4/20 OKC Tour Opener

Went to the ATL show last night. The thing about a Tom Petty show is that there's no way to time a bathroom & beer break without missing a great song--"Shit, he's playing Walls, keep the change!" Was also thinking about the contrast with the Mudcrutch show I went to last year. There, he was in blues...

It's going to be a fairly quick trip for us, but I'll be turning 40 at the Thursday show. If you see a bald guy with a bittersweet look on his face and a brunette who ought to be out of his league, wish me well.

New one's streaming on NPR. So far it sounds like every Son Volt album, but that's not necessarily a complaint.

Re: Shows you want to see

Someday I'd love to see a "DBT Family" benefit show where DBT plays an opening set, then anyone who's been in the band over the years plays a mini-set of songs from whatever their current project might be, then there's a superjam at the end. I'd also like to have a head full of hair, but I realize t...

Re: Warren Zevon

He would have been seventy yesterday. Still the greatest "guy/gal with a guitar" act I've ever seen. I saw him do one of those solo shows on what I think ended up being his last tour. Somebody had left a camera sitting onstage and Warren picked it it up and took a picture of himself. A guy in the c...

Mike's playing his new concerto the same night Amanda Shires is playing here next week. If I weren't already bald, the stress of choosing would be making my hair fall out.

This is really cool. The DBT Facebook page posted that Patterson's got a short story featured in this collection of cars and crime. I was already planning on picking it up because of the stories from Joe Lansdale and Willy Vlautin. http://www.mulhollandbooks.com/books/fallwinter-20162017/the-highway...

But most of it goes through Facebook and Twitter and I’ve never used any of that. I don’t participate in that world at all, mostly because I’ve been to middle school and I didn’t like it all that much.

Re: Fall Tour Dates (with Lydia Loveless!)

Wife and I decided to go to the Pacific Northwest for our anniversary and it coincides with the Seattle show. Showbox is a cool venue, I take it? Showbox is an excellent club. Not very big, good sight lines & sound. Very well run. I'm kind of surprised the band is playing there. There is another Sh...
