Re: The 2012 Thread for Political Shit

I think government has 1 roll and one roll only, protect its citizens, the school system is failing because of the government and lack of competition. I think a private company would do a much better job on the roads, right now it's government, they have no one breathing over their shoulder ready t...

Re: House of Blues in LA 3/15/12

My brother is completely converted, he couldn't believe it. He said after all these years, he walked out of there (for once) saying..'wow, my sister is right!'...on the phone just now, he's like 'what's that song..hell no something?'..he was flabbergasted that everyone knew the words to every song....

Time takes a cigarette, puts it in your mouth You pull on your finger, then another finger, then your cigarette The wall-to-wall is calling, it lingers, then you forget Ohhh how how how, you're a rock 'n' roll suicide You're too old to lose it, too young to choose it And the clocks waits so patient...

Re: Black Metal & Dark Ambient

I've been listening to a lot of black metal and dark ambient music lately. I love the atmospheric feel, the attitude of the musicians, and the feel of these 2 genres. Black metal started in the early 90's in Norway, wit some pretty hardcore people. Verg Vikernes who has a one man project called Bur...

Re: Boulder, March 10

Forgot to mention there was a big fight in the crowd on the floor somewhat early on in the set. I didn't see any blows thrown, more like lots of drunken clutching and grabbing and the usual post-fight posturing. Damon had to jump into the fray unfortunately and three or four people got tossed. In t...

Re: Farrar/Johnson/Parker/Yames tour

The Tweedy Farrar debate would go on for PAGES and PAGES... i think we have to agree on certain categories like songwriting, stage presence, bigger visionary, biggest a**hole, better musician, better singer...just a straight up would be impossible.. How about this? Son Volt v. WILCO And afterwords,...

Saw PJ open for U2 on that tour. Couldn't believe that the crowd wasn't in to her, but they weren't. I can't say i went specifically for PJ, but i probably wouldn't have gone if she wasn't on the bill. Oh, when was this? The Zoo TV tour? (Zooropa in Europe). Same experience here, PJ was on so early...

Re: R&R Cage Match 6: Ozzy versus Post Ozzy Black Sabbath

Good job breaking it down, Bill. True, Ozzy wasn't a lyricist or songwriter. But he had a unique vocal style and, deservedly or not, he is mostly responsible for heavy metal's place in the hearts of seriously screwed up teenagers. Outside of Ozzy, most 70's metal bands were rock stars to the max. I...

I'm from the middle of nowhere in South GA and never had the outhouse experience so I wrongly didn't think this story was about Patterson's own life. Both of my parents knew what having to use an outhouse was like. I also forget that Patterson is in his mid to late forties. Is this whats gonna defi...

In the learn something new every day dept, I had no idea the Spinners were from Detroit and originally were on Motown. They were/are Philly soul all the way in my head. This thread has been very educational (and entertaining). A bunch of bands I never hear of before. And the song Take The Guitar Pl...

Regarding the Jam, I thought you might be interested in the following clip. The quality isn't great, but its the Jam on Philadelphia's own American Bandstand hosted by the ageless Dick Clark who I'm sure you might have heard of. They do Heatwave and Strange Town and in between there is a very embar...

^^^^^^ Oh, I love me som Jam, anytime. That clip is as punk as it gets imo. I saw Paul Weller at a festival a couple of years ago. He's still got it. Not sure about Nina Hagen. Whats going on with those hammers? Germans have a very strange sense of humor, very "Slapstick" (Seinfeld for ins...
