Re: DBT came to Spain

I'm not sure that was the best set list for a Spanish show. Um..What would you have played for almost 3 hours? Julio Iglesias songs? Maybe you and Zip City should start consulting for the band so they quit wasting all these wonderful opportunities. Pretty sure that was satire. (hoping it was at lea...

Re: Lollapalooza Webcast

This is a missed opportunity so far, IMO. Too much new stuff. You have a huge captive audience of potentially new fans, don't start your short set with 6 new ones in a row! EDIT: Now seven songs without anything from SRO, DD or TDS. Potentially new fans don't know the old shit, and don't care as lo...

Re: Music Blasphemy

Hmm... The 90s pretty much sucked musically most of the way through from my POV. Danko is a really good song if the words mean something to you and you like to sing along. Otherwise, it's like come on, let's get going! John Henry is fun and manages to tie the individual story with issues about the c...

Re: DBT Tracks - Week #8 - Ghost to Most

There is just too much imagery from the Iraq / Pakistan war for this to not be about that IMHO. Saving everybody and setting the world at ease seems like a reference to the U.S. taking on the role of policeman of the world. And phrases to somebody's cause, God's hand on the trigger, judging other p...

Re: DBT Tracks - Week #8 - Ghost to Most

it's a cooley song, so it's indirect. here's my take. it's kind of a counter-point to lookout mountain. he's on edge and jittery, thinking about killing himself tonight and weighing some pros and cons. thank god mama's not around anymore to witness this. he doesn't really give a fuck about himself, ...

Re: What's Going On?

This sucks, but I'm sure it was necessary as it would be way too much hassle to do otherwise, and he can always come back on as Frank Rizzo and totally fuck with everyone's heads.

Career closers

Sorry, if there is already a thread on this somewhere, but what are some great career closing songs, by which I mean some apparent career capping song on their last proper studio album? ideally, a self-aware song commenting on it all, but not necessary. marley - redemption song replacements - all sh...

Re: Best Sustained Runs of Greatness in Rock History

dylan had a run of greatness in the 60s and another in the mid-seventies, and a decent run the past ten years. springsteen had 70s maybe to mid-80s for greatness. REM ran low on juice at document with some leftovers to offer up, then one more album five years later with automatic and mixed results o...

Re: Music Blasphemy

I also submit that the DBT/Bettye LaVette album is far inferior to her "I've Got My Own Hell to Raise" album. Definitely disagree on this one. Hell to Raise to me is like a decent tribute album with several songs that are less than the originals - feels forced maybe due to the whole woman...
