Re: Saxophones Don't Belong in Rock & Roll

I love horns in rock and roll, but every time I see a sax player I remember John Mayer referring to the sax as the "bitch whistle." He was poking fun at his sax player, but it just cracks me up thinking of someone being known as ___ on the bitch whistle. I have never heard that till just ...

Re: The TV thread

I'm about mid-way through season 4 and agree that the best the series has to offer is probably in the rearview. That said, I'll probably ride it out until I finish it. I understand there's supposed to be a seventh (and final season) as well as a possible prequel. I got extremely bored with that sho...

It was also reviewed on our local equivalent of NPR yesterday. Generally favourable though the reviewer is a crusty old English ex-pat dude.

OK so I went to the local record store and bought a copy of the CD. I am still trying to track the blue vinyl but what evs. Failing that I will buy the album from the DBT store. I have very deliberately resisted learning anything much about the new album, and did not take the opportunity to get a le...

I love you for using "Whomever" correctly. also, you know: information. I still have no clue how bookdepository make money: free international shipping out of the UK to Buttholeville, New Zealand included in the cover price? My last amazon.co.uk order was shipped out of Spain (a CD. becaus...

Profit! I'd say read Under the Dome knowing the explanation for the Dome is idiotic. The source of the Dome is entirely besides the point, and I wish King had simply made it appear/ disappear without ever revealing its origin. Theres a very good book by Patrick Tilley called Fade OUt and from memor...

Re: The TV thread

I was commenting last night about the dichotomy between Woody's character and Matthew's. On the surface, it appears Woody's character is the more pulled together (nice house, family, job longevity, etc.) than Matthew's (broken marriage/family, loner, bouncing around from job to job, etc.) yet, as P...

READER BEWARE: No actual spoilers below, but some fairly detailed references, so if you think you might watch Justified (and you should) you might want to skip this one. Justified - Meh. Speaking of soundtracks, Justified just cries out for more DBT!! It's a travesty that Never Gonna Change isn't the theme song. having said that the song they do use "Long Hard Time To Come" by Gangstagrass is great. I love their album called "Lightning on the Strings, Thunder on the ...

All I know about Archer is from the commercials i sometimes see during Justified, and I can't make heads or tales of that damn thing. Then again, I'm not the target demographic. It is crass but subtle. Funny as hell. Best animated series (we're adults, we don't call them cartoons anymore) since MET...

A wise man once told me when I was a young pup Never pass up a bathroom Never waste an erection Never trust a fart Words to live by as I get older... That wise old man was Billy Connolly right? Thats part of his standup routine. Also the older I get, the more I realise its funny because its true.

However, I still like it, the clothes are still fantastic, and certainly there is a lot of potential for good stories, just depends on whether or not the writers make hay.
