Re: The Neverending Thread for Political Shit

Impeachment is not solely about office removal. It is about accountability. All this handwringing about who is defying subpoenas would be over. It would be a live on TV expose of the criminal enterprise now holding control of the Executive Branch. No one could refuse a subpoena. I would expect the T...

Re: The TV thread

Season 2 of Succession on HBO starts in August. I really enjoyed season one, and did not want to be lost when 2 started, so I am rewatching it. I think it is in the top 10 of any HBO show ever. At first it seems like another version of Billions, but it is miles ahead in script and acting. Maybe not ...

Yup those are impressive. Did not watch the whole thing, too much commentary between slides. My point was getting picked off and getting in a pickle. I have never seen anyone safe in that circumstance.

Re: Last Movie Watched

Saw Grindhouse for the first time. I saw Planet Terror years ago but never the whole double feature with coming attractions. Great homage, though it was funny seeing a mock of 70's B movies which appeared to be physically damaged film, with 2007 era cell phones. Death proof was a slow start with a ...

Biden is an old buffoon. Who are these people that are giving him a lead in the polls? I have never met one. Is it only people with landlines who want to talk to strangers?

Re: MLB 2019

If it were up to me, no DH, no inter league. DH is not going anywhere, so leave it out of the NL. I agree about offsetting the DH in inter league, since that's going nowhere either, to visiting team rules. In other news.... ESPN waits until the single slowest day of the season, the Thursday of the A...

Re: MLB 2019

As gimmicky as it is, I dig the players talking to the announcers during at bats, or when in the field. Bellinger and Yelich can even talk to each other. Freeman talked all through his at bat. Please never use this outside of the All Star Game. I thought it was a new low and highly ironic following...

Re: MLB 2019

Obviously. But what are the qualifications? Season performance, or batting practice performance? Vlad Jr. is TIED for # 182 in MLB home runs. Think about that. I think the only qualifications for the HR Derby are who will give the fans the best show. This is a competition that most years struggles ...

Re: MLB 2019

I would say that Guerrero Jr. belongs in the derby Monday evening quarterbacking? If batting practice with a juiced ball is a qualification, then yeah. Why is Vlad Jr. there? Look at his numbers. Whether or not the players chose him, he does not belong there. Plus, before Yelich dropped out there were 5 NL hitters out of 8.

Re: MLB 2019

P.S. As of today, the leadoff hitter in MLB with the highest on base percentage, at .415, and the highest OPS, at 1.030, is Tatis. Who is not on the all star team, simply due to an injury, and a clear SD prejudice by MLB. It's ok. 1.030 will attract a lot of attention from the right people. And a l...

Militarization of sports pre-dates Trump. Re: DBT (and Jason) in Americanaland

The Jayhawks are certainly alt.country (among other things), but I always think of Uncle Tupelo as the original leader of what started being classified as alt.country. And, like all genres and sub-genres, there are varying shades of grey. Not all alt.country bands were created equal, nor do they al...

Even if you extend the alt.country label to the birth of country-rock in the 60's (I consider it late on the continuum - country rock>cowpunk/Paisley underground>alt.country), Wild Horses ain't the first anything. It's a perfect song but not at all groundbreaking or original. The Byrds, ISB, Burrit...

Re: DBT (and Jason) in Americanaland

Is Rolling Stones Americana? I would say a certain subsection of Rolling Stones songs are definitely Americana, Smitty has called them a great country band in fact, maybe even providing a blueprint for what would follow (along with Gram Parsons). In terms of Americana I've often described Detroit b...
