Re: Welcome to Club XIII

I left for the beach the day after the album came out and have been catching up on the comments on this thread tonight ---I've really appreciated the numerous fantastic posts over the last three pages. You folks have some really good insights. I think the number of really long posts here since the a...

Re: Welcome to Club XIII

Speaking of less relevant musings: In The Driver , the phrase "An epiphany, a moment of clarity" reminds me of the diner scene in Pulp Fiction every time I hear it. And like the song, there are many instances in Pulp Fiction that would have been completely different if not for the timing of that one...

Re: Welcome to Club XIII

So I was at a work conference in Hershey, Pennsylvania, most of this week. (Shoutout to the Harrisburg PA airport for having AC/DC's "TNT" playing on the the outdoor speakers yesterday morning when the hotel shuttle driver dropped me off). I checked my phone in Philly before getting strapped to the ...

Both Hood and Cooley could do something with the Casey White/Vicky White story.

Re: Every Single Storied Flameout-New Cooley Song

I'm digging Wes Freed's artwork for the video. Same stretch of road from the SRO cover with Eleanor perched on what's left of the old tree. Horn players in the foreground foreshadow the sounds in the song. The car crash in the back makes me think of Days of Graduation. This song paired with The Driv...

Re: Welcome to Club XIII

The fact that both of these guys are writing, playing, singing and recording so well 25 years into this project and well over 30 years since they started playing music professionally is a small miracle just the way it is. I was thinking similar thoughts today. There's not a lot of bands out there t...

Re: Welcome to Club XIII

The song Club XIII never really grabbed me back when they first started playing it on stage. I like the story and the inspiration behind the song more than I like the actual song (though the earworm aspect is likely part of the point). It did grow on me at HC. I was hoping the early release track wo...

Love the DBT reference of course, but that Whitmire guy, who is totally new to me, turns out to be pretty damn impressive. That's a really well written column.
We have a couple of good ones here in town. John Archibald and Kyle Whitmore both consistently do great work.

Re: The Neverending Thread for Political Shit

From an opinion column on al.com: .....As new as this feels, it’s an old story in Alabama politics. Call it the Wallace conundrum: Did he really mean all those things he said? Or was he just doing it for the votes? If you listen to the Drive-By Truckers as much as I do, you know how the next line of...

Re: The Fourth Night of My Thinking

For start times etc since it's come up: I would prefer that they just start a little earlier and play same amount of time and stop earlier. That gives more time for hanging out after the show or getting to bed earlier, or grabbing a snack after the show etc. Preach. On a related note, I'm very happ...

Re: The Fourth Night of My Thinking

I've heard the stories about the original request show. I think maybe doing the raffle stuff ahead of time and letting the band assemble X number of winner requests into the show may alleviate the string of non-rockers. (still just spitballing though) For start times etc since it's come up: I would ...

Re: The Fourth Night of My Thinking

I very much dig HC being a little more outside of cold and flu season like it was this year. And if that was partially responsible for the lower bro factor in attendance, I'm all for it. Nicest crowd by far I've seen in my 7 trips to HC. For the extra night if it continues: Love the idea of a rariti...

I really like the direction of the new album after hearing a bunch of it in person. I liked everything I heard, and The Driver absolutely smokes.

It was a cathartic weekend, and it was fabulous to see y'all at The Rock Shows and events.

I hope the Gomer Pyledriver thing sticks. It suits them.

Shit yeah !!! My dad passed away Christmas Eve. He was not a metal guy at all, but he absolutely loved UFO. Those records got worn out around our house when I was a kid. Re: 2022 Heathens Homecoming Thread - Jan 12 13 14 15

I'm very happy with the reschedule. Hopefully we'll be able to slip between variants, and having it in April also lessens chances for all of us to catch the garden variety crud that's so much more prevalent in winter months. And it's a huge bonus that TC and Lurleen may be able to attend. And hopefu...
