Re: The New OK - 10/2/2020 (Vinyl 12/18)
Patterson writes very honest and hard hitting political songs very well. This batch of songs for The New Ok are my favorite of his in quite some time. The way they sequenced the album makes it a better companion piece to The Unraveling. I appreciate them deeply for having the stones to write what th...

Re: The New OK - 10/2/2020 (Vinyl 12/18)
I would never say this is a B-side quality album. It is a great album. To me it’s a continuation of the draining of optimism we see all around us in society. That’s what people are feeling and going through right now. These last three albums have been so important to what their message has always be...

For me the best three are:
1) Grand Canyon
2) Mercy Buckets
3) Awaiting Resurrection
others are good too but those three stand out for me.

Not sure if they have been talked about in here much but I have to say their new album ‘Teamwork’ is phenomenal. They in my opinion have progressively gotten better album by album. The reviews for this one are positive for the most part with the only complaint being that they do not venture out much...

Re: The Unraveling
I love all the DBTs albums for different reasons but I would definitely put this one(The Unraveling) in my top 3 ever along with Brighter Than Creations Dark and Go Go Boots due to the unbelievable writing of Patterson on this one. His best writing overall start to finish on a record ever in my opin...

Re: The Unraveling
More thoughts as they come. I agree with all who have said they wished Cooley’s vocals weren’t drowned out by the guitars etc on “Slow Ride Argument”. Makes it hard for me to fully embrace that song. I on the contrary to some on here really like “21st Century USA”. Excellent imagery in that one. I l...

Re: The Unraveling
A few quick thoughts after about 20 straight through listens. I am most impressed by how different sounding “Heroin Again” and “Babies in Cages” are. Both I didn’t think I would like but I feel are the heart of this album. The dirty bluesy sound I just love. I’m still trying to wrap my brain around ...

Re: New Letter From Patterson 1/18/2020
I’m a little disappointed that Patterson feels like he needs to defend himself to us (or anyone). Agreed 100%. Music is art nothing more. You can listen or choose not to. DBTs have always been honest and real. I would hope in today’s landscape there isn’t anyone that would want that to change. Thei...

Re: The Unraveling
Yeah, sonically this is really different from American Band. It really doesn't sound like any other album they've done, and that's pretty cool. That is the truest of tests for a band after they have made every album in about every way imaginable already. It is the evolution I personally like to see...

Re: The Unraveling
What I’ve heard so far from The Unraveling speaks to me and how I view things. I know that’s not the same for all on here. I am moved by their stance and courageous spirit to say how they feel regardless of the cost fan base wise. That is the test of a real artist in my opinion. To me Patterson’s wo...

Re: John Calvin Abney
I saw him play with Moreland and was really impressed with his guitar work. Didn't get that into his solo albums that much. Maybe need to give them more spins. His intricate guitar playing is ridiculous. His sound on his solo albums is a more mellow vibe which is more what I gravitate to as a liste...

John Calvin Abney
Anyone listen to JCA? I have for a few years now. He is most known as a guitarist on John Moreland’s albums. However he has released some gems for albums recently. His album Coyote is one of my all time favorite albums to spin. His most recent which came out in 2019, Safe Passage is so good as well....

Re: Tyler Childers
The change in Childers for me as a fan between Purgatory to Country Squire is a talented country singer with potential to a CMT clone who rushed an album of way lesser quality just to release another. Just my honest opinion. Also if I’m being honest Justin Townes Earle’s The Saint of Lost Causes >>>...

Re: Tyler Childers
I've listened to Caleb Caudle, and I wouldn't put him anywhere near Childers. I think Childers has a phenomenal gift for melody, and a lot of wit in turning a phrase. Country Squire isn't quite as good as Purgatory, but it's still awfully damn good to my ears. I like his voice, the arrangements, an...

Re: Tyler Childers
Tyler Childers is good I would never dispute that. This is going to be unpopular it appears in this thread but I am confused as to why he is a poster boy for country music. His latest Country Squire is ok but for the few good songs on it there are a few duds too. Yes he has the predictable country s...

Re: Red Hot Chili Peppers
Always loved the Chili Peppers. BSSM came out my senior year of HS. It was an epic album for the time. I dabbled in their music before that. My son was born when By The Way came out. That will always be my favorite album of theirs. For me the RHCPs have always been their best with John F in the band...

Re: The Unraveling- New Record out 1/31
I deleted my facebook account 6 years ago. It's one of my better decisions. I agree. I’m on a few message boards like this where people come to share a common bond, DBTs music. Other than that I am not on social media like Facebook at all. It just enrages people for really no reason when you think ...
