Re: Who's Everyone Seeing Live?

Rober Earl Keen farewell tour (ticket prices certainly match) tomorrow night at the Ryman. A few months ago I said I was done with downtown Nashville. I'm making an exception. Quite a fun show. REK played a long time, over 2.5 hours. All the hits were played and he brought out Todd Snider for Play ...

Re: The Neverending Thread for Political Shit

I've been in a serious Tom T. Hall rabbit hole lately. I found an old interview with him where he talks about politics and religion. He kinda tied his liberalism to things he saw in most churches growing up. I do believe he was a christian but he said the things that got Christians fired up most had...

Re: The Neverending Thread for Political Shit

I don't care what Pence's motives were. When the chips were down he did the right thing. He is a pretty shitty, loathsome guy for the most part, but he got this one right.
I think KISS is a terrible band. Strutter is a damn good song though.

Re: The Neverending Thread for Political Shit

I do not like Mike Pence. I am beginning to respect him a lot more through the course of these hearings though. Agree. But I think we need to be careful for throwing around words like "brave" and "hero". The Republicans who stood up are simply fulfilling the oath they swore. The are doing the bare-...

Re: The Neverending Thread for Political Shit

The problem, Mr. Clams, is that this is NOT, or should not, be about anyone's opinion about Trump; it's about facts: What happened, who did it, and why. Seriously bubba, you think facts still matter? Are you not paying attention?? Have you learned nothing in the last 6 years??? IMHO, this is probab...

Remembering Levon. Born on this day in 1940, he passed away at the age of 71 in 2012. This is from the new album with Mavis Staples, Carry Me Home. fuGWSAi6IgI Levon has been on my mind a lot lately. My wife and I are headed out later today and heading to Merlefest in Wilkesboro, North Carolina. Lots of great artists on the bill. Looking forward to it. Next week I'm gonna attempt a trifecta of Adam Carroll in Mobile, Steve Forbert in Meridian, Ms and Scott Miller in Nashville. It's an ambitious ...

Re: Nashville, 4/15-4/16

You’re not kidding. It’s funny because growing up downtown Nashville was a great place if you wanted to get mugged, stabbed, etc., but ~10-15 years ago it actually began to improve as more businesses moved in. Unfortunately, that led to BIG business moving in and now what we’ve got is essentially a...

Re: Nashville, 4/15-4/16

Beautiful night in Music City for a rock show (besides the downpour that came after the show, but that’s beside the point)! Lydia Loveless kicked things off, and while her set was a subdued, solo affair, she has some wonderful songs and is always one of my favorite DBT openers. DBT took the stage a...

That new Ian Noe is really good.
I'm really into it. River Fool, Ballad of a Retired Man, and Road May Flood/ It's a Heartache are on a nonstop loop in my head.

My wife and I are going to boogie down to Birmingham in a couple weeks and catch Ian live.

Thanks for the kind words, folks.

I've tried to get into The Kernal for quite a while but it had never totally clicked for me. I'm all in on this new release though.
He was on Rhett Miller's podcast a few weeks ago and he seems like a very interesting, nice guy too.

However, in a book that explicitly stresses the importance of places and the people who come from those places, it says Lynyrd Skynyrd is from Gainesville. They definitely were not.

A while back there was some discussion on her about the origins of the vitriol and division we see today between political factions. I made a case, or at least expressed my belief, that it started in the early 1990's with Rush Limbaugh, the rise of conservative talk radio, and Newt Gingrich. Well, l...

Only stories for the men"
