Re: The Amnesty Intl Bob Dylan Tribute Album

I skimmed through it when they put it on their fb a few weeks ago, but I only listened to the artists I already love. QOTSA's cover of Outlaw Blues was amazing (though I could just be too starved for new Queens material to really judge) and the MMJ cover was pretty good. It's an immense collection t...

Easily my most anticipated album of the year, and it's not disappointing at all. Good to have him back.

Re: Jason on Twitter is a thing of beauty

The only part of this that confuses me is that all of a sudden her bass playing and songs are apparently bad. Seems like it should have taken Patterson and company a lot fewer years to realize that. But if that is how it all went down, I don't blame Shonna for being pissed and wanting to let it out....

Re: Farrar/Johnson/Parker/Yames tour

At the end of the day it's probably the least important thing to consider for a musician. Jim seems to be a really weird guy, so wanting to go by something like Yim Yames isn't really unprecedented for him. As long as his music stays good, I don't care what he records it as. All that being said, I'v...

Re: Farrar/Johnson/Parker/Yames tour

Am I the only one who thinks the "Yim Yames" thing is idiotic? Its like he's being rock's "Ochocinco". It's weird, but doesn't really bother me. "Jim James" is already a stage name he created, so whatever. His life. The weird part for me is that he only uses YY sometim...

Re: Trifectas

Maybe I'm in the minority, but I'd rather the bands I love play big shows and make a comfortable living than to toil in semi obscurity playing tiny clubs for decades. Of course I love the intimacy of a small show, but these are guys and girls who need to make a living, and it just seems selfish to p...

Re: Trifectas

I have no problem with the arena shows. I thought twice about going, but the only arena show I've been to (Foo Fighters) was an absolutely fantastic evening, so I don't mind the setting. I don't think they're quite ready as a live act, but I don't blame them for cashing in while they can. If they'd ...

Re: Trifectas

I'm glad they didn't go the AC/DC route and keep making the same record over and over again in an attempt to stay true to the sound of their early recordings This. Magic Potion is actually my least favorite Keys record because it's when the guitar and drum blues thing started to sound stale. It's g...

Re: Jason Isbell vs. Dierks Bentley

BTW, Taylor Swift should have no place in country music (although her role is not unprecedented) but as a pop songwriter/performer, she's a master. Just sucks that it's all about being a pubescent teenager. I was hoping someone would defend her. She's an incredible songwriter, whether you want to c...

Re: New Year's Eve 2011

To address the repeat of songs: Mrs. Rabbit and I talked about this as well after the NYE show on the way home. Here's my take: They have Barbe playing with them. He probably is only prepped to play x number of songs. Its not like you can go up on stage and pull out some crazy back catalog song and...

Then I just wanna listen to that instead.

Definitely. I always jump to SBITS too. Shame, because Black Moon is a great enough track on its own.

Re: New Year's Eve 2011

According to the 930 Club forum: Prolly something like 9:30 Thursday and 10:30 Friday and Saturday with supports on at 8:00 and 9:00. Our up-to-datest times will be on our website so be sure to check just to make sure the times don't shift too wildly. So if I'm reading this right, we're looking at T...

Re: New Year's Eve 2011

Well I can't say for sure, but based on a quick google maps glance, it's ~2 miles to the Club from the White House area. I'd walk that easily, but it all depends on your comfort in the city. The 930's surrounding area certainly isn't what you'd call classy, but I've never been nervous walking around...

Re: New Year's Eve 2011

actually street parking is pretty easy around the Club. Of the few times I've driven to the 930, I've bought a parking ticket in advance once, at the door once, parked in a $20 lot across the street once, and found free street parking (literally around the corner) 3/4 other times. can't guarantee it...

Gotcha. I didn't get to a Patterson show after Murdering Oscar, so I wouldn't mind a solo album and tour.

Did he just say new album, or did he specify solo or Truckers? I thought I read that the band was taking a bit of a break after this year.

So, pardon me if this is dumb, but what are we expecting from the NYE show? Full Truckers set with Booker T sitting in, or a mini set of them backing him on his own stuff? Mix of both?

Re: New Year's Eve 2011

Just an FYI, but the 930 Club announces shows in its Wednesday night weekly newsletters. You can sign up for free on the club's website. Obviously the band beat them to the punch, but this coming Wednesday should be the venue's "official" announcement. Generally, they'll announce a show th...
