Re: English Oceans Discussion Thread
Made Up English Oceans is still without a doubt after numerous listens my favorite song off this album. I love everything about it lyrically and musically. I feel like I'm riding next to Cooley and DBT on horseback. Do you have your shirts on? Me and Patterson have a maroon button-up on with sweat ...

DBT is - a singular entity - A band.
Drive By Truckers are - a plurality of individuals making up a singular entity.
So both could be correct?

Re: English Oceans Discussion Thread
Wildly off topic, but I just noticed GMU's quote that he signs his posts off with. "Its not that I think DBT is better than everybody else...wait...yes it is ." DBT are an "it"? I've noticed this anomaly before, that Americans refer to bands this way and people from the UK (and ...

Re: English Oceans Discussion Thread
I'm with Smitty on Birthday Boy. Thank you. It's one of those songs when I hear someone say is "subpar" or "an okay song" I want to grab their shoulders and shake the shit out of them. Maybe it's personal experience (without getting too personal, lol) but I think it's brilliant ...

Re: English Oceans Discussion Thread
I don't want to derail the thread, but as time goes on I think "Birthday Boy" may be the best Cooley song period. Or it could just be I have a soft spot for hookers. I couldn't be more pleased with Cooley's output on this record, but I still don't think anything touches "Pulaski"...

Re: English Oceans Discussion Thread
Nice write up GMU. This quote was intriguing though: Hearing Jimmy Loud This is my favorite Cooley rocker...kinda seems like the song Birthday Boy always wanted to be. (That one was always just OK to me.) "She's like a talk'in leather couch." "Go on and fake it loud as you can."...

I think I am finally ready to comment on this. Receiving this over the normally chaotic (and this year for us tragic) holidays made it a little tough for me to really sink into this one initially. Southeastern, his third, is a breathtaking document of lyrical honesty and achingly gorgeous melodies.

Re: English Oceans Discussion Thread
I have mixed feelings about these comments about the new album being their best work. On one hand it is very few and far between that any artist or group puts out their "best" work going on two decades into their existence. Perhaps none exist where the majority of their fan base would agre...

Re: Jason Isbell: Southeastern Album Thread
I've found that there has been a lot fans who want Jason to "rock more", though I find the rock songs on Southeastern to be my least favorites I tend to agree although there are no songs I dislike on the album. I think what folks (or me anyway) want to see is for his songs to still have a...
