Re: Coronavirus - COVID-19

Governor Inslee of Washington just shut the state down. Stay at home order. Certain metro areas in TN (Nashville, Memphis, Knoxville) are doing the same, but I’m afraid a good bit of the damage is already done. TN is about to be one of the top 10 states in terms of having the most cases, because ou...

Re: 2020 Tour Dates! THERE ARE SO MANY

I had been really looking forward to going to the Ryman with my wife, but that show is now cancelled. I’m glad to be safe though. Y’all take care! Has the Ryman show been officially canceled? I assumed it would at least be postponed, but I don’t see anything about it on the DBT or Ryman website. I ...

One of the worst things I saw all weekend were all the videos coming out of downtown Nashville of the packed bars, almost as if it were just another weekend here, with thousands of bachelorettes, tourists, and dudebros elbow to elbow wherever you looked. The mayor asked all bars to close for the tim...

Re: Polar Vortex wtf???

For the second time in 12 years a tornado outbreak hit my home state on Super Tuesday. On February 5, 2008 several towns got ripped up pretty bad. Most notably was Jackson, Tn which got hammered by an EF-4. Fast forward 12 years and middle Tennessee gets smashed onSuper Tuesday. And god knows Nashv...

Re: The Neverending Thread for Political Shit

Was it only about 8 months ago when the Democratic Party had over 20 declared candidates for president and the pundits were all saying that the resulting chaos and confusion was a good thing because it indicated the depth of the Democratic bench? Wasn't it just a few years ago when Super Tuesday wa...

Tangentially related but I guess this is the best place for it. The SCM guy must’ve gotten plenty of clicks from the Isbell article, because he wrote a follow up about conservative and independent songwriters (and interestingly enough another article blasting Sturgill Simpson for...not making the sa...

Re: Isbell on Political Songs and Songwriting

I tried avoiding this article all day at work, but finally gave in and it’s about as much of a shitshow as I expected. I like Saving Country Music to keep up with releases that don’t always get as much attention as they should because of their genre affiliation, but any time it dips its feet into mo...

Re: The Neverending Thread for Political Shit

One of my senators, Lamar Alexander, is retiring after his current term and instead of going out with some dignity he went out like a total weasel. Tennessee has had a pretty solid history of bipartisanship and has been a pretty well governed state. The current crop of elected officials is forcing ...

Re: The Unraveling

Regardless of how it ranks in the DBT canon, this has to be one of their most sonically interesting records. Just so much going on at once, and yet it almost all comes together completely. My biggest early takeaways: 1. Rosemary is an awesome opener. At first I was concerned with the record starting...

Absolutely gutted. I’ve been a Grizzlies fan since they moved to Memphis, but Kobe Bryant was my favorite player growing up. I’ve always been jealous that my parents got to watch Michael Jordan in his prime while my kids get LeBron James, but for me I’ll always remember Kobe.

First Concert — Foghat in Alabama, 2009. We were spending a weekend at the beach, they were playing a free show down the road. It was terrible (I mean, it’s a free Foghat concert in 2009), but it was a good enough time for 16 year old me to start going to more shows. Last Concert — Kelsey Waldon at ...

The first time I heard T&P was in late 2018 in Chattanooga, and I remember LOVING it at the time. Thought it was Patterson’s best new song in a while. I still like it, but for some reason it just doesn’t hit as hard as it used to. However between this single and Armageddon’s Back In Town, and everyt...

One of the benefits of being in the education field is having a couple weeks off before the new year to recharge a little bit. The downside, however, is having a couple weeks where I can’t stay busy and end up thinking abut how close we are to Homecoming. It seems like the days move at a glacial pac...

Fun subplot to follow: MLB is enacting a 3 batter minimum for relievers starting in 2020. Don’t think it’s going to affect the game too much, but I’ll be curious to see who the first team/manager is to bemoan the new rule. Also I feel great about the Braves going into next year, but I’ll feel much b...

Read this last night, powerful stuff. If you have an hour or so to spare, definitely listen to Walker’s interview on the Crash & Ride podcast (the same one Patterson was on the other day). He goes a lot more in depth, and he’s quickly becoming one of my favorite voices in music.

Re: The "you've gotta be kidding me" Dream Thread

A couple nights ago I had a dream (or more so a nightmare) that Homecoming 2020 got moved to Charleston, SC (where I just returned from a trip, which I assume if where this dream came from) at one of those goofy Jimmy Buffet-ish bars. For some reason 24 ounce PBRs were $12 and came with limes, and e...

Please tell me someone saw the end of the Egg Bowl. Ole Miss is driving down the field down 21-14, and after a chaotic series of mishaps, flags, and the replaying of downs, they finally score on a pass play with 4 seconds remaining. The only problem is, the receiver pretends to be a dog crawling on ...
