Re: Okkervil River - thoughts, recommendations?

I have The Stage Names and The Stand Ins and like them both. However, my interest in the band has waned since I saw them open for Levon Helm back in January. The performance was kind of flat, the new lead guitarist was terrible, and Will Sheff came across like a complete tool. Only "Our Life Is...

Re: DBT Covers By the Fans

I should still have all of the files on my drive somewhere. I'll work on getting them put up on this new site. That would be great! Thank you. If Vol. 3 ever gets in the works, I'd like to put my name on the sign up sheet. Me too! I've been known to rock versions of GD Lonely Love and The Company I...

Re: depressing Mick Taylor article

This article is at least a few months old, and shortly after it came out it was contradicted by the MT camp, who said that most of it was either falsified or heinously exaggerated. He still tours and he's doing fine (though he was recently hospitalized for some sort of respitory ailment, but he's re...

Only 3 so far in order to save money, but: DBT- Tarrytown (June 4) The New Pornographers- NYC (June 19) The Hold Steady/The Gaslight Anthem/The Whigs- Detroit (July 15) I wanted to see the Dexateens and Jay Farrar but they're both 21+. I've decided against seeing the Black Keys this time around cuz ...

(The Shadoobies are to The Rolling Stones what 3DD's are to DBT). Ahh, but Shadoobees are only one of the many varieties of online Stones fan! There are also Rocks Off-ers, IORRers, and, most importantly, Gassers! Read all about it in this book, which I am featured in: http://www.amazon.com/Rolling...

November 2008- the current lineup. Though I'm not sure Jay was an "official" member at that point. Anyone know when that distinction was made?

S/T was fairly mediocre IMO. I can see why he'd want to shy away from some of those songs. NOT Sunstroke though, that ranks up there with his best songs.

The Dirty South and Decoration Day probably tie for first. Then: Southern Rock Opera/Brighter Than Creation's Dark The Big To-Do Pizza Deliverance Gangstabilly A Blessing and a Curse ...or something like that. Pretty much this. You have excellent taste! Oh, get a room you two! With pleasure. Though...

Re: The Hold Steady

It's grown on me a lot. I'd say it's still probably their weakest album but it's much better than I thought it was at first and I hope it's merely a transitional sound to something new and exciting. I really love The Smidge, for some reason.

If anybody could help me figure out how to enjoy the Disco Biscuits, the White Stripes, or Animal Collective I'd appreciate it. If you've had trouble getting into the White Stripes, I'd recommend checking out the Raconteurs. I didn't like the WS at all before I heard the Raconteurs- specifically th...
