Re: Guided by Voices/Robert Pollard

I too have been following and loving these write-ups, Cortez. I haven’t paid much attention to the post-reunion stuff because there’s been so much of it and most of what I have heard hasn’t grabbed me much. Plus Half Smiles felt like such a perfect swan song to me that it seems a shame to pile on so...

Why do members of R.E.M. only seem to show up at Homecoming in the years when I don’t go?

Re: The Unraveling

Grammatical nit: Either "no two of them sound alike" or "not one of them sounds like any other." I am ashamed. I blame lack of sleep and/or my editor. I really don't think facial hair would be a good look for Cooley. I think he rocked the goatee pretty well during the Dirt Underneath era: https://c...

Hi Dave, we met and ate together on night two of Massive Nights. Sorry to hear this. Bummer about Homecoming but it'll be much warmer where you're going. Maybe next year for both of us.

Re: New Letter From Patterson 1/18/2020

Thanks, Patterson. Just want to briefly stick my own head in and say that this... It’s our greatest sounding record by a long shot. ...is definitely true. People can complain about the songs if they want, I guess, but I think this is DBT's first true piece of sonic art. Like, Rosemary With a Bible a...

Re: The Unraveling

Why anyone uses Facebook for any reason whatsoever at this point in history beyond looking up tour dates or restaurant menus is utterly beyond me. Much less to discuss DBT. You might as well be smearing shit on a wall. Anyway it's hard for me to imagine a DBT not liking this song musically, but what...

Re: The Unraveling

Of all the songs on the album I've heard them play live (so everything but that second Cooley song), this one has always been my favorite, and the studio version delivers. Love that little guitar lick Cooley (?) is doing, and Jay's piano is sublime.

Lastly, and I think this goes for a lot of us "regulars", the weekend is not all about the shows. Yes, I go to all of them, but I believe I could go and not attend and be good. It is more about the friends you have made over the years and in many case only see a few times a year. The meet up, Nuci'...

Re: Homecoming 2020! Feb 13-15

Well Emily and I are out this year and I for one am fine with a couple of newbies going in our place. Everyone who wants to should be able to go Homecoming at least once. Not like it’s ever gonna get to a level where any of the shows sell out within seconds; just park in front of your computer as so...

Re: If You're Going to the 6/28 Rock Show in Bklyn

This has the potential to be one of the most memorable events in Heathens history. Wish I could go (to the Rock Show and this) but the mental image of you lot hanging out at a drag show is reward enough.

I'll be disappointed if I get through another Homecoming without Cooley busting out One of These Days. I have somehow missed it at every show I've been to since 2010. Also would be jazzed about hearing: Hearing Jimmy Loud George Jones Talkin' Cell Phone Blues Grandpa Rock City Perfect Timing Bob Car...

Tentatively in.

For any Chicagolanders who have done one of these before - how early would one need to show up to get a good spot by the stage? Would showing up at 4 when the event starts do it or is this like a line up hours before situation?

Re: Heathens Homecoming 2018

I consider myself to be a mature person. I'm 60 years old. I've been married for almost 35 years I've raised 2 kids to adulthood. Very serious people pay me semi serious money to provide them with useful advice about serious matters. So I really do not like being a drooling, babbling fan boy. I do ...
