Dogwood Tales

Feel like a lot of folks here would enjoy these youngins from Harrisonburg VA. If you enjoy Whiskeytown, Ditch-era Neil, Mapache, Gram & Emmylou, etc, then Dogwood Tales will most likely resonate with you. https://warhenrecords.bandcamp.com/album/wh033-closest-thing-to-heaven https://warhenrecords.b...

Re: RIP Justin Townes Earle

Some notable shows: Solo at HSBF in 2007 (maybe 2008). First time seeing him. Steve sat in a chair on the side of the stage and watched the whole thing. The Big Surprise Tour in 2008 or 2009, whenever that was. Duo w/ Cory Younts. Killer revue style show with JTE, Felice Bros, Gillian & Dave and OCM...

Re: RIP Justin Townes Earle

Unbelievably sad news. Saw and worked with Justin many, many times over the last 10 years or so. To the point where we considered each other friends. Big hugs, great hangs. Always felt like he wanted to spend more time hanging out in my office than he did in his green room. Some wonderful memories w...

Re: Best of 2020--so far

Mulatu Astatke - Mulatu of Etheopia Can you tell me more about this? I've flirted with buying the 2017 reissue for a long time but could only find it from Strut Records in the UK and never wanted to pay that much shipping for something I can listen to digitally. I Googled and came up empty on a 202...

One of the better lists like this I've seen in some time.

Would add:
Bill Frisell - East/West
Lambchop - Live at XX Merge

Re: Dexateens -lots of info here

Nice to see some movement from them. Even better that it was mixed/mastered by David Barbe. Might as well just put it on your calendar to buy on 7/3 vs. pre-ordering because Bandcamp is waiving their fees again that day. Still got some Teenage Hallelujah LPs available for $10 here, if anyone is inte...

They've been good to Charlottesville. I'll probably go see them every time they roll through town.

That record is so sick, so glad they reissued it.

Really, REALLY want a By Your Side reissue.
Prob my favorite from them and arguably their most underrated & underappreciated record.

Re: Best Records of 2019

The AD list is far & away the best. Tons of great stuff I was privy to already, but always a lot of surprises and new-to-me goodies. Takes forever to work though, which I love. I listened to a handful of stuff yesterday. The Ernest Hood "Neighborhoods" release is incred. New Commute typically has a ...

Need to check out Fontaines DC, I see that name pop up everywhere but have no idea what it is. Always makes me think of Richmond Fontaine. And then I get sad because they aren't a thing anymore. Here are my favs. Unranked, because I personally think ranking is silly. Vetiver - Up On High HGM - Terms...

Never been but they have a good calendar.
Just a little too far for me.
But I think it does well because there is literally nothing else in that part of VA until you get to Asheville really. It's a big, under-served market.

He burned down with us post-show and was like "wow we don't have that kinda space weed on the bus!"

I, like I'm sure a lot of you here, found Tom Petty's death to be particularly shocking, unexpected and truly unfortunate. One of the pillars of Rock & Roll and American music. A god. Naturally, I found myself listening to his catalog almost exclusively after his death for many months, and as a resu...
