Re: Capitol, Port Chester NY, 3/15/13
Regarding bands who play songs by a departed member, the most prominent example would be the post-Last Waltz Band playing Robbie Robertson songs (even as the lingering publishing issue got under Levon's skin).

Re: Capitol, Port Chester NY, 3/15/13
Best show I've seen at the Capitol since 1969's Mad Dog's and Englishmen' tour with Joe Cocker. Actually, that was probably the last show I've seen at the Capitol, but as the song goes, I was so much older then...

Re: Northeast Tour March 2013
In for the triple play: Northhampton, Port Chester, and Montclair. Having never been to Homecoming, I've never seen the band two nights in a row-- well, once upon a time, I did follow Tarrytown with the Truckers appearance at Levon's Midnight Ramble-- let alone three. Note to self: set the cruise co...

Re: Northeast Tour March 2013
Bummed that the Truckers aren't playing in NYC-- guess they're waiting for a new album. Still dreaming of a residency at the Brooklyn Bowl. Funny...haven't been to the Capitol Theater in Port Chester since I saw Joe Cocker's Mad Dogs and Englishmen tour. Talk about old school!

Re: Patterson Hood & Downtown Rumblers @ Hudson, NY 9/20
Another thumbs up for a great show. I liked the July performance in Brooklyn with David Barbe on bass, but in that context, the cello was largely lost. In this configuration, the cello complements both Patterson's acoustic guitar and Jay's keyboards. And with the Cambell sisters adding harmonies and...

Re: Patterson Hood & Downtown Rumblers @ Hudson, NY 9/20
Going to the show, but spending the day at home. I live in the Hudson Valley, but have never been to Hudson, which is known locally for Club Helsinki and some art galleries. For a day trip (and tomorrow looks to be good in the weather department), I'd suggest a visit to Olana (m There is also a shor...

Re: New Year's Eve 2011
Thinking of the Truckers from afar (and tickled to see Thursday night's "Lookout Mountain" on YouTube). Will celebrate tonight by spinning the live disc recorded at Jack White's joint. Still, curious minds (at least this one) wants to know: Has Patterson given Shonna a shout-out from the s...

Re: Ithaca, NY 11-16
Terrific show in a beautiful theater. The light turnout was a bit of a bummer, but that seemed like water off the Trucker's back, as they gave the Felice Brothers a long opening set, and rocked from the opening notes of "Used to Be a Cop." For me, the highlights was a wicked "The Righ...

I booked the cheapest room I could find through expedia-- at the Meadow Court Inn-- for $67. It's slightly less than a mile from the venue. I just checked, and they still have rooms at that rate.

Re: Ithaca, NY 11-16
Getting ready for a rainy drive to Ithaca. Anybody fellow travelers interesting in copping a meal before the rock show? I found what looks to be a good Thai place a black from the theater (Taste of Thai at 216 E. State Street). But there also appears to be many nearby alternatives. Let me know. See ...

Re: Ithaca, NY 11-16
Been holding off on pulling the trigger given my four-hour drive. Frankly, I can't imagine it selling out, and hesitate to cop a cheap motel room for fear of a cancellation a la the Pennsylvania show last spring. But then, haven't been to a rock show since the Wellmont, and feel the need. Still, I'v...

DBT in George Pelecanos novel
The Truckers make a cameo in the latest George Pelecanos novel, The Cut : "He told her that he wasn't the office type and that he liked working outside. He listened to reggae, ska, dub, and guitar-based rock and bar bands. He liked soul music when he heard it but was unfamiliar with the artists...

Re: Greatest Hits release?
Leave it to Rolling Stone. They gave the "hits" collection 4 1/2 stars in the latest issue, and the subhead for the paragraph long review reads "Genius Southern storytellers give you their best." Too bad the tiny album cover depicted with the review is Go Go Boots.

Re: DBT on Letterman June 21st
Totally cool, and great seeing the "after-hours" encore with no worldwide pants logo and Dave in his shirtsleeves like he'd just arrived at the rock show and didn't have time to roll up his sleeves. I guess that's another reason why we love this band-- they make us feel good when they hit ...

Re: Brooklyn Bowl June 20th! YESSIRRRRRRR
I knew I'd get pilloried for my "great-show-but" post, but I kvetch because I love me some Truckers. I stand by my contention that the more (dare I say it?) disciplined Wellmont concert struck a finer chord than the comparatively pedal-to-the-metal (but mucho fun) Brooklyn show. And it was...

Re: DBT on Letterman June 21st
Thanks for the YouTube post...my DVR stopped just as Dave was cracking up Patterson and Cooley with his "cute story" about driving a van to Kansas City. Figured Barbe would be on board since he was in Brooklyn, and it was a sweet strategy to fill out a beautiful song. Bravo!

Re: Brooklyn Bowl June 20th! YESSIRRRRRRR
Yes, as everybody has said, 'twas a rockin' show at the bowling alley. And while a hit-the-bottle rock out has got to be fun, I say it paled next to the performance they gave at the Wellmont. I couldn't help but feel that given the impromptu nature of the gig, the band was playing to please itself a...

Re: Brooklyn Bowl June 20th! YESSIRRRRRRR
Talk about a big (little) to-do. Reeling from that brilliant show at the Wellmont, I toyed with copping a ticket to the Clearwater Festival, but decided to let my ears ring with the memory of New Jersey. Not now. Brooklyn here I come!

Re: Montclair NJ show June 11
Montclair was my 12th Truckers show, and it was the best yet (for the record, rounding out my top three would be 2004 with Jason at Irving Plaza-- my first-- and the opening of The Big To-Do tour at Webster Hall on April 1, 2010). More to come later on my personal blog (which I'll cross-post to the ...

Re: DBT in Rolling Stone's "Best of Rock 2011"
Full disclosure: I've written on and off (mostly off) for Rolling Stone since the mid-'70s. Generally speaking, there's relatively little relation to what's reviewed in the records section and what's given coverage in the front-of-the-book or in the feature section. The Truckers get reviews because ...

One part of the business puzzle that hasn't been addressed is the issue of song publishing. Bands (including The Band) have run into trouble over the fact that the songwriter enjoys a second revenue stream from a record release (publishing royalties as opposed to record royalties).
