Re: Lee Bains III & The Glory Fires

I think they mostly captured what it's like seeing the band in a live setting, but I wish the vocals were louder.

Re: Cooley, Hood and Isbell together for Terry Pace Benefit

Fun story: The first time I saw DBT was in 2002 at the Nick in Birmingham. My wife and I were there (she wasn't my wife yet) and she had a panic attack as soon as they started playing so we left after just a few songs. DBT played at the Chukker in Tuscaloosa a couple of nights later and I went with ...

Re: What's Everyone Drinking?

That Hellhound is the SHIT! I got one last year in FL. Need to get another one soon, maybe this year if I can make it down there. Just drank one of the 90 minute IPAs tonight that a friend brought back from FL. We can't get them in AL.

Re: Jason on Marc Maron's WTF podcast today

JTE has had ladies on most of his album covers, I think. My friend Rachel is on the cover of the Harlem River album with him. FWIW, I think Chris Hardwick does really great interviews on the Nerdist podcast as well. I don't think I've heard him interview any musicians before, but he does a lot of fi...

Re: What's Everyone Drinking?

I gotta get in on a beer trade soon. I recently made a trade with an old buddy of mine from Florida and got a nice stash of Cigar City brews. Good shit! Our first brewery just went live here in the Shoals. It's called Singin' River. They are only distributing in local restaurants and package stores ...

Re: What's Everyone Drinking?

Beebs, how is that maple bacon porter? I searched high and low for Rogue's Maple Bacon Doughnut Ale a while back. When I finally got one, I was really let down. I thought there was no way that it could be gross. So now I'm really intrigued by the beer that you posted.

Patton-related : "Cry Like a Baby"

KsQTu2gf6m8 A couple of years ago, Matt Patton and his band (Model Citizen) came to the Shoals with Lee Bains III & the Glory Fires and the Bohannons to record a session for the "Live from the Shoals" sessions that I was putting together with Ben Tanner (who is now in Alabama Shakes)....

I didn't think of Spotify because I don't use the "site". I usually use the app, so it didn't register with me. But it's well worth it for the premium service each month.

I love that Avondale Vanillaphant Porter. Good stuff!

What'd you think of the collaboration beer, Clams? I loved it. A friend recently told me that it tasted like ham to him (in a good way) because of the smokiness and I've been wanting to try one again since he told me that.

Re: Lee Bains III & The Glory Fires

I wish the vocals on the Arkadelphia record were more up front. I always thought they were mixed too low. I asked him not too long ago if the Glory Fires cut "Layin' Track" for the new record and he said "no" because it had already been recorded for 2 other albums that never got ...

Re: What happened to the Alabama Shakes?

True. I think the AD article and the DBT tour BOTH helped them out tremendously, but the reason PH even came to see them at Pegasus Records that night was because of the blog entry .
Also, you mentioned NMAS. Had it not been either of them, someone else would have brought them along on tour .

Re: What happened to the Alabama Shakes?

They were making quite a name for themselves around here before they opened for DBT. If we're being honest, most of the credit should go to Aquarium Drunkard for first posting one of their demos on his blog. THAT's where PH heard about them.

I'm gonna test them both later, but I really think the medium one will hold the most. I don't see how the "large" box is considered large.

Re: What's Everyone Drinking?

I picked up a couple of the flat rate boxes today to finally ship Clams his FF rewards package. I got one of the medium (longer) boxes and one large (more of a square box). Is it just me, or does it look like you can get more beer in the longer, Medium box? I'm gonna try to pack them both later and ...

Awesome. I'm into super-hero stuff, but some of the stuff on my list was non-superhero (Sandman and Preacher come to mind first).

So you create comics too?

Comic books/graphic novels

Hey nerds, what are your favorites? I've decided to up my nerd-game and have jumped head-first back into reading comic books. I posted something on Facebook and Twitter a while back and got a bunch of suggestions and ended up getting several of those books for Christmas.

Anyway, what do you like?

Re: What's Everyone Drinking?

I got 2 bottles of Pliny from Bovine last year for winning the fantasy league. Not gonna lie, I horded one of those up for a couple of months.
