Re: Artist of the Week 10/10/11 - Lydia Loveless

Saw Lydia in Charlottesville last night and she played 4-5 new ones. It they're any indication, it seems like there's a stunner of a new album in the works.

Re: The Jefferson, Charlottesville Monday March 26, 2018

All I've got is wow. Solid two and a half hours, no encore break, lots of classics, Days of Graduation (?!), an emotional moment before Perilous Night, the new Cooley song (love the back and forth vocal between Patterson and Cooley on the bridge), and a big burst of positive, rockin' energy from one...

Re: Artist of the Week 6/25/2012 Lee Bains III & The Glory F

I love that this new record has a sense of dynamics that wasn't present on the last one. more quiet/loud than just straight up loud. it's a lot to digest, but I think it's great.

Re: English Oceans Discussion Thread

Not that I have seen every setlist recently, but I have noticed that there aren't any Patterson English Ocean tunes and only a couple Cooley (MuEO & Shit Shots Count). Anyone else find this peculiar? not really. they're still promoting American Band and have a long catalog of must-plays they have t...

6. Pizza Deliverance
7. English Oceans
8. A Blessing and a Curse

Re: Artist of the Week 10/10/11 - Lydia Loveless

Was really glad to finally see Lydia & co in Charlottesville last weekend. The show was solid even if attendance wasn't great. Apologies to the band on behalf of all of us in this town for the tall guy toward the front who took somewhere in the neighborhood of 1,000 iphone photos that seemed to most...

Re: American Band- 9/30/16

I haven't really had a chance to listen to the vinyl yet (new turntable is coming today), but I have a feeling that when I do, "Kinky Hypocrite" being relegated to a separate goddamn record is really going to bug me. #shouldabeenyoubaggage this is my least favorite thing about AB so far. wish it wa...

Re: American Band- 9/30/16

For me the evolution the band has done since TBTD is exactly what I was hoping to see. My favorite three albums have been GGB, EO and now AB. I was around for all the others I just really dig the changes they've made. Adding Gonzalez and Patton has made their sound so much more appealing. Both are ...

Re: American Band- 9/30/16

When Heat LIghtning came out, I said how cool it was that the songs were distinctly Patterson, but also decidedly not DBT. It was exciting that such a prolific songwriter could stay true to himself, yet deliver a set of songs that were set apart from the band's sound. But then EO came out, and it f...

Re: American Band- 9/30/16

Y'all are crazy; Patterson's writing style has somewhat mellowed out (which in relation to where his life is at, is understandable, although I'm certain he's still capable) but I think it's better than ever. "Ever South" is the best song about TDOTST (the duality of the southern thing) he's written...

Re: American Band- 9/30/16

I'm into it. Maybe very into it. The Cooley tracks are great for the second straight record, and the Patterson songs are very good for what they are. My only beef is that Patterson's default writing mode over the last five years -- while good -- seems to be skewed way toward the softer sound of Heat...

This was the best Jason Isbell show I've ever seen. The combination of having this set of songs finely honed, the affect his sobriety has had on his singing and playing, and the wonderful acoustics of the venue set it apart from other JI shows I've seen (though really, I almost feel like they shoul...

Last November, Lucero played three nights at Terminal West in Georgia to create a massive 4-LP, 32-track, career-spanning live hits album, Lucero: Live From Atlanta. Known for going all-out for their live shows, the band wanted to finally capture some of their songs in their live forms, which some ...
