Re: Quick List Vol XVIII - Top 5 Uncle Tupelo Songs

Because there aren't enough of these threads..... 1. Moonshiner 2. Whiskey Bottle 3. Graveyard Shift 4. Coalminers 5. Fifteen Keys Honorable Mention to their cover of "Effigy", which, IMO, blows CCR's original out of the water Pretty much how my list goes as well. But for one of the first...

Re: Quicklists XV: Best "Experimental" Albums

Taking a country legend that was shunned by Nashville, stripping him down to just a guitar, and making him vulnerable. It was a huge "fuck you" to the country music establishment and won a Grammy. I'm not sure anyone but Rick Rubin would have tried it Well on that basis i guess we should ...

Reconnect with your source, get some R&R, and get everything perfectly aligned. Due whatever it takes to achieve these things. Even the wicked need some rest once in a while.

Re: Jayhawks planning tour, reissues, new album

Saw the Louris/Olson reunion @ The Bowery Ballroom in NYC back in '05. Great show. It would be great to see them work a New England show into the mix this time around. How far are you from NYC? Remove the traffic and the headaches of getting in and out of the city, it's not that far. Maybe 2 hours ...

Re: Jayhawks planning tour, reissues, new album

I guess I like the alt.country stuff that has a rawer edge, the Jayhawks just struck me as being a bit too polished for my ears. Probably also why my fandom for the DBTs has slipped significantly in recent years. I recently watched the clip on the home page for Lookout Mountain and the organ stands...

Re: Quick List Vol. IX: Your Top 5 Lynyrd Skynyrd songs

I heard the Ballad of Curtis Loew over the PA system in Whole Foods yesterday. Did not believe what I was hearing, but it was true. That's not too shocking to me. I hear Curtis Loew on the radio a lot. I would assume they were just pumping a radio station over the speakers, or some kind of commerci...

Re: DBT Track Of The Week #28- "A World Of Hurt"

The first time I heard this song was when my folks were getting divorced. I've never even approached the point of not wanting to live (I'm lucky enough to always find something I love no matter where I am in life), but it was a low point/rough patch in my life, and the optimism of this song really s...

I don't see DBT covering the GD... Yeah, I think Earl was the only one that ever spoke openly for his love of the Grateful Dead and Rob has been known to play with Donna's Tricksters (if I'm not mistaken). Otherwise, with their utter disdain of hippies (despite playing many a jam festival) I never ...
