The English use that word often & enthusiastically. They cuss much better than us yanks.
You mean this sort of thing?

I've actually always wondered why americans are shy about that word.

Re: Every Single Storied Flameout-New Cooley Song

Hey, Heathens... One of the immeasurable benefits of Our Faithful Tapers, is getting an early glimpse of new songs. Most often, it's obviously a PH song, and on this last run we've gotten the insanely catchy "Welcome 2 Club XIII", which, unlike a lot of recent DBT songs, despite how well-constructe...

Had some more communication from my friend in Poland. To date, Poland has taken in 800,000 & the number is rising rapidly. Also, many in Poland are starting to take iodine tablets since Russia started firing missiles at the nuclear reactor. The fear is if it catches fire there could be another Cher...

Re: The Neverending Thread for Political Shit

It should not be forgotten that Nixon was a flat out red baiting anti communist nut in the 1950's. That said, his foreign policy expertise and some of his foreign policy accomplishments cannot be doubted. OTOH, dime, I would not include his exit from Vietnam among those achievements. Long story, ma...

This is worth sharing. Now, obviously Richard Nixon was a lot of things. But he was certainly very shrewd and this clip from 1992 is incredibly prescient.

If theres a positive side to this, some of the stories coming out of it already give you hope for human nature. There are genuine heroes involved here and not least the people in Russia with the balls to protest.

If theres one compensation amongst all this, we get to see people's true colours.

Anyone still apologising for Putin. Anyone still suggesting that NATO is to blame for this. We'll be able to see who they really are.

Re: The Neverending Thread for Political Shit

So in the UK, one (or both) parties can remain in power by simply refusing to govern, driving popular opinion and thus expectations down. What a terrible system! It also sounds oddly familiar. It's more like, they can't dare take responsibility for their actions because they may end up losing their...

Crime is a 6 part Scottish detective series on Prime. The first 2 episodes were excellent and so intense we had to take a break before continuing. The next 2 episodes continued the high quality w/ a little less intensity, which made the watching experience even better. The 5th episode was a bit dis...

Like everyone else I absolutely loved this. My main takeaway was that when they sat down and just played together, they were still just the band who played 7 days a week in Hamburg. Despite all the progression in the studio, their first instincts were still to play Chuck Berry together. The other bi...

Not just a polo shirt but an Augusta National polo shirt. That's the club where the Masters golf tournament takes place each spring, and where there have long been allegations of racism against blacks.

I liked it.

It spent a lot more time on giving Daniel Craig's Bond a big ending than on telling a story. But when it's good it's very good.

Re: Billions or Succession?

I see some similarities between these 2 shows. Mostly ultra rich, and NY location. But one is vastly superior in my view. Succession is always written about as a parody of the Murdoch's and to some extent it is. But to me it is really a parody of the Trump kids. Don. Jr, Ivanka, and Jared, are clea...

That Stereogum bit is a really nice summary. I only heard SRO about six years ago so in my head I always think of it as a fairly recent record! The first DBT album I heard was A Blessing and a Curse. So despite liking a couple of tracks I didn't really get into the band and didn't pick up any of the...

Enjoyed the return of Billions and the surprise appearance of Jason Isbell.

A cameo in a fairly pointless scene that seems to have been shoehorned in. I guess that confirms that the writer is a huge fan. That show has a consistently excellent soundtrack.

State of Play is a movie from 2009 w/ which I was unfamiliar. But it has a true all star cast and an interesting sounding plot so we went for it and very much enjoyed it. Another one that won't change your life but a well made thriller ripped from the headlines, as they say, and as relevant today a...
