Re: New DBT Show in VA

Somehow the stars have aligned to take this special Friday night away from me. How dare life and family obligations stand in the way! Anyway, you guys have a blast - the weather's supposed to be great. Hoping to swing Isbell-McMurtry later this month in Raleigh, DBT in Winston-Salem in NOV, and (to ...

Re: DBT TRACK #70 - My Sweet Annette

I'm surprised this doesn't get more love. Actually, surprised it wasn't on "greatest hits" (what are we officially calling it?) When I started making everyone I knew a DBT mix CD when I was fisrt bowled over by them, Annette was one of the primary tunes people gravitated towards. They mayb...

Re: Bands You Respect, But Don't Necessarily Like/Listen To

This is a great thread - and this would have to go back a few years, but the Strokes. Never really did it for me, even though they get/got a lotta props.. And not that they're related, but any of the "new" punk bands like Green Day. I saw the Ramones 11 times and the Clash once - there's r...

By the way, I'm not sure if you're in Raleigh or not but several members of Guitartown maintain a list of shows that are posted here.

That is a great site - thanks for linking. You hitting Isbell/McMurtry on 10/26?

Re: What's Everyone Listening to?

I'm trying to get to that Raleigh show, so we gotta do the secret DBT handshake and a few beers beforehand. My company has an office there, so I always try to make the "business trip" happen when good shows are in town at the Lincoln or Berkley. Last and this year's Hopscotch were both bil...

Re: New DBT Show in VA

I didn't mean to put down anybody's alma mater. I am sure you get a quality education at H-SC and, like a lot of small liberal arts colleges, it is out in the middle of nowhere. And it was good to learn about that school's tradition of booking great bands and running a quality college radio station...

Re: What's Everyone Listening to?

Anyone ever listen to CHRIS KNIGHT? Country/Americana guy from KY. If so, I'm late to the party, but just bought a few of his CD's. Damn fine songwriter. Saw BUSTELLO at Hopscotch - damn! These great are great, if you like 1980 new wave/punk type stuff - really good old-school stuff. http://www.bust...

Re: New DBT Show in VA

Folks, the stereotypes are flying in tight formation today! I graduated from H-SC in '91. Yes, that was 20 years ago (jeez), but let me shed some light on a couple things: 1) H-SC has always had great bands. DBT played there in 2006. Back in the day, we had Widespread Panic, The Feelies, Hoodoo Guru...

Re: DBTs Playing 2nd Hopscotch Fest in Raleigh in September

Great stuff KG. I had a long post Thursday night that had some decent tidbits (and some pretty good pics) from the songwriter's panel and the DBT show, but I somehow lost it whilst doing a few final edits. Actually, reminds me of a couple years ago when I could not sleep while I was visiting Colorad...

Re: Go Go Boots at the Six Month Mark

My opinions on the album have not changed all that much since i first heard it. Definitely a solid album, ranking somewhere in the top half of the DBT catalog. Its very satisfying, though if i were to have to criticize i would just say it probably has a few more songs than usual that (not that i do...

TFP version of Goode's Field Road for me. I think it smokes the BTCD version.

Just damn lucky, but got Rebels on my first show. Cat's Cradle, Carrboro NC, 2005....along w/ a few other rarities like Louisiana 1927, Southern Thing (w/ long intro), TVA, and Keep on Smilin'. Sheeeyat.
