Re: Mrs. W in IA
Wish there was a way I could send hugs to you and your family, GW. I wish there was something I could say that could bring comfort, but words seem completely inadequate right now. The helplessness of it all makes me want to bawl. Way to keep on keepin' on when life really ain't fair. Your fortitude...

Re: Mike Cooley Live From Paste
This happens plenty, but I feel like an idiot. I know who Charlie Rich is, but I probably have never heard a Charlie Rich song in my life. The country radio stations where I grew up only played Top 40 country, and never dig past 1990 or so. All the old school country I knew growing up was introduce...

Congrats, Iowan! Sounds like your new job is a perfect fit! And thanks, TC and Mrs. S - I did make it through Monday (barely). I've just got way too much shit coming due at the same time this week and it's been pretty stressful. But today I go to the barn! Today will be no problem. Wednesday...not s...

Re: Horse Talk
Does anyone have an opinion about HBO canceling the show Luck because of the very unforunate deaths of three horses during filming. I really enjoyed the show. The horse racing scenes were great. They made the show. No, I hadn't heard about it. I don't get HBO, so...the only thing I heard about was ...

Drive-By Truckers, far and above everything/everyone else.
Johnny Cash is probably the closest second.
The other eight in no particular order:
Alabama Shakes
Hank Williams (Sr.)
Booker T.
Jason Isbell
Lucero
Charlie Rich
Jerry Lee
Eddie Hinton
^^See, guys? There's hope for the future yet.

Re: What gets on your nerves?
There are a couple for me that make me want to claw my eyes and ears out. The first is people who feel the need to smack/chew their gum with their mouth open. The sound is DISGUSTING!!! It looks none too nice, either. I don't think it's too much to ask for people to PLEASE CHEW GUM WITH THEIR MOUTH ...

LOVE Pin Hits the Shell. LOVE. Ramonz, you pretty much described it perfectly - no way I could put it better. Brad's part at the beginning and end of the song frame the context and title of the song incredibly well. Love the melody between verses 1 and 2. And hearing Cooley sing the words "hors...

Here's the perspective of a relatively new voter: I got put all the way through AP Government in high school, so I ended up quite disillusioned with the entire political system by the time I was registered to vote. The left and right are equally crooked, IMO, and all the politicians really believe i...

It's not as bad as it sounds. Those horses are really only there to stand around and have the vet kids practice drawing blood samples or injecting IV/IM shots, or bandaging legs, etc. They might have a hair or two pulled out of their mane for the genetics project being conducted in the Gluck Center ...

You take the traditional country out of their sound, they become generic rock band number 20 million and something. The rockers are okay... I disagree w/ this. Pretty resoundingly. W/out doubt the mix of country & rock (and the other influences which spice their work) make the Truckers who they...

Re: Just Hood & Cooley
It seemed to me that Hood and Cooley both got over trying to run away from their country roots early on. With DBT, they finally embraced the fact that they were country boys through their music, and that was what lent them their unique sound. You take the traditional country out of their sound, they...
