Re: Cover Songs

A friend of mine on the Guitartown listserv collects versions of "The Weight", this is his most recent finding: 2WmlUXsjSv8 Nice "item" to collect. Whats your friends favorite version then? The one on The Last Waltz is up there imo. I also like this one, although it is without v...

Re: So you wanna take the kids to Disney??

Fascinating stuff RolanK. My fiance's family makes circular lefse, and they tend to eat it in a variety of ways. I'm a big fan of wrapping pickled herring in it too. Well, if the Lefse is circular and has the diameter about the length of a hot dog, you may impress your familiy by start referrring t...

Re: So you wanna take the kids to Disney??

This has become a significant thread-derail, but as Norwegian I find this Lefse-cult kinda amusing. I am impressed by you people over there apparently know people who knows how to make the stuff. I don't know anyone over here who knows how to make Lefse from scratch. I think that knowledge died out...

Re: So you wanna take the kids to Disney??

There is lefse in my fridge. BOOM Holiday leftovers? How long will it keep? And yeah my mom-in-law makes killer lefse (but I never once thought about how to spell lefse until this very moment.) The only reason I know how to spell it is because my grandma-in-law puts it in a zip-lock bag and then la...

Re: So you wanna take the kids to Disney??

My favorite was Epcot because of the food. If you go to Epcot, eat in Norway. Lots of great scandinavian food which we don't get a whole lot of in NJ. (Yeah, good Scandinavian food is something you Minnesotans and others from the upper midwest have on the rest of us.) I didn't mind the trip. It was...

Re: Request - I Hear You Hummin

Depending on how you tune your guitar (Standard tuning or DBT dropped one whole note down to D etc), its in F, or G respectively Best to be played in dropped tuning with open chords (If you wish to stay in the same key as the original) in order to get that little "movement" in the bass . F...

Re: What's Everyone Drinking?

I guess this more or less the classic method, as I've seen it referred several places. Its the way I prefer, regardless of gin make. Its been quite a while since I made one, but it used to be standard routine. Every saturday afternoon, one in each leg and then to slumber away in the armchair the re...

I got onboard around Summerteeth. I thought YHF was a great album. As has been said by several people already: Great live band. I think Nels Cline is fantastic (but I am a guitar geek, especially offsets). However, I really do not listen to their albums that much anymore (especially not after having...

Re: What's Everyone Drinking?

Ah! Those were the days... So, what ratio (blend) vermouth vs. gin? Montgomery (1:12)? Or do you just place the glass in the shadow of the vermouth bottle and let the sunbeams shine a hint of vermouth through the glass? Yes, I like the second choice , but, I have a little sprayer which I fill with ...

http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/41gyh7qG1QL._SL500_AA280_.jpg 1st listen. It's been appearing on a lot of year end lists from folks I respect so I had to give it a shot. I get a heavy X vibe... I get associations to The Throwing Muses. (vocals, and the simplistic guitar runs.) Pretty cool vid...

I just started to get into the Dead a couple of years ago, but then DBT "got in the way" and I only got around to get a copy of American Beaty and Live Dead (Filmore West '69) before my Dead-project was put to a temporary halt... Seems to be a few people who are real hard core fans in her...

Re: DBT Bass Player auditions.......

As long as we're dreaming, how about John Paul Jones? It's probably not all that far fetched, not that long ago he was under consideration to play on Tift Merritt's debut, Bramble Rose . Last summer JPJ showed up out of nowhere and joined a "local" experimental electro jazz trio for an ho...

Mike Watt Oh Yeah! I saw him two years ago with The Stooges. Alternatively Bosco Mann. Or the chick they (Dap kings) sometimes substitute with. i love Watt, but that would not be a good fit. i think Watt would be bored stiffless. You're probably right about Watt. I doubt the other two would've been...
