Re: English Oceans Discussion Thread

I wouldn’t call Hood’s contributions to English Oceans weak, but I think that particular album is definitely where Cooley refound his footing after having a rough time during TBTD and Go-Go Boots. No idea if that’s the explanation or not, just makes sense in my head.

Re: Who's Everyone Seeing Live?

Just got back from Steve Earle/Lucero at the Ryman, fantastic show as I expected. Earle played everything off the new record, and of course plenty of his older material. My one qualm with the show was how long Earle’s set went (2+ hours), but for the most part it didn’t feel that long. Lucero really...

Between Lane Kiffin causing riots at UT, Bobby Petrino’s motorcycle, and Hugh Freeze’s escort business, no one does coaching resignations like the SEC

Re: MLB 2017

Just got back from Atlanta, glad to say I got to see the Bravos claw back to .500 for the first time since the 2nd week of the season! Don’t think they’ll still be hanging around at the end of the season, but they’re at least setting themselves up for an interesting trade deadline/wild card race.

And here many of us were thinking he ran out of gas as far back as a couple years ago! If he is somehow able to get to 20 Grand Slam titles I’ll be positively astonished (well, more so than I already am). I have a feeling this record will last more than quite a while.

Re: Jason Isbell Is Not the Terminator

Jason Isbell Is Not the Terminator I think Harvilla and I have very different taste in regards to what we think makes up a good Isbell song, but I think the part in which he compares him to John Prine is dead on. Both are capable of writing from any number of perspectives, and are damn good at it t...

Heading to Atlanta tomorrow to catch the end of the Diamondbacks-Braves series. Hoping the rain holds off so I can see an MVP candidate in Paul Goldschmidt and (hopefully) Freddie Freeman.

Re: Favorite Album Side (vinyl)

#1 - Side D The Dirty South - I think there are better stretches of songs in the band’s discography, but Goddamn Lonely Love is my favorite song ever, and I feel like this is when Isbell (who is still one of my favorite songwriters) really seriously started hitting his stride. Huge sentimentality fa...

Saw him a couple weeks ago at Bonnaroo, I agree that he has greatly improved. One of the best parts of the Superjam was him covering Al Green with Margo Price. Looking forward to his next release.

Re: MLB 2017

How often do you guys make it to games, MLB or minor league ? I've made an effort to get to more this year and my count is at 7. 2 MLB, 5 minor league. I'm hoping to make it to 5-8 more minor league games at least this year. My work schedule makes it almost impossible for me to make games Tuesday-F...

Well when you notice the message boards for your favorite band is covered up with Bammers (even if they’re the harmless northern Alabama folk) you feel the need to balance it out a bit!

Hope you’re ready for September 16th!

Re: Newbies--Introduce yourselves

Hey y’all, started listening to the Truckers back in 2013, got hooked after hearing Southern Rock Opera and The Dirty South. I’ve lurked and read around here for a couple months, excited to hopefully take part in some good discussions! Maybe I’ll even see some of y’all at Americanafest in September.

Braves are currently far better than they have any right to be, and them DFA’ing Bartolo Colon actually gives me the tiniest sliver of hope going into the All Star Break. They won’t contend for anything this year, but the future might not be so bad.

Re: The "How do you rank 'em in the middle of the year?" Thr

Honestly thought 2016 had a much better January through June, but there’s still been some quality stuff this year. 1. Kendrick Lamar - DAMN. 2. Chris Stapleton - From A Room: Volume I 3. Vince Staples - Big Fish Theory 4. Jason Isbell and the 400 Unit - The Nashville Sound 5. Father John Misty - Pur...

Re: The Nashville Sound - June 16th

Took about two solid weeks of listening to the record, but I think I finally have a fully formed opinion on it. I didn’t get into Jason (or the Truckers for that matter) until about 2013-2014, so I didn’t have the frame of reference I know a lot of y’all do. I was completely blown away by Jason’s wo...
