Re: Isbell with John Prine in ATL and Savannah

I've been meaning to post this for a while. I was completely blown away by the Jason/John Prine show at the Fox in Atlanta Oct. 18th. The crowd showed up early for Jason and he got a few ovations that you normally don't see for an opener. You could hear a pin drop during most of his show. It was a ...

Re: Dave Grohl Is Killing Rock n' Roll

I watched the first episode of the show. I liked it--the focus was on their recording in Chicago for "Something from Nothing." Lots of talk with Buddy Guy, Steve Albini, Rick Nielsen, Bonnie Raitt, etc. I don't know--if you don't like the Foos/Grohl it's not going to change your mind, but ...

Re: Artist of the Week 8/9/2010 The Replacements

I was there Saturday. Endured being wedged in a huge crowd during Conor Oberst's set (wife's favorite, so we were really close to the front), then a complete downpour that left us soaked before we could get our ponchos out. It was worth it for the Mats set. They seemed to be having a blast, and Arms...

Re: Patterson Hood on WTF with Marc Maron

I'm listening to the Patterson interview now. Has anyone been to Jim Stacy's restaurant that he mentions to Maron? Is it worth a stop the next time I'm in Georgia? m Yeah, Pallookaville's definitely worth checking out if you're here. Jim's corndogs are a thing to behold, and they do some great shak...

Re: Peter Buck and Patterson Hood "Roswell"

I went to the merch table between sets and they had a stack of signed copies of Peter's new album. I decided I'd pick one up at the end of the night so I wouldn't have to keep up it with during Alejandro's set. When he was done, all they had was unsigned copies. The point is, I'm an idiot.

Re: Peter Buck and Patterson Hood "Roswell"

This was last Friday, February 28th, Peter Buck/Alejandro Escovedo. Kevin Kinney joined a few minutes later with Honeysuckle Blue (I think Patterson had left at this point but I was not in the best form so if you hear differently from someone else, I'd believe them). No, you're right. Kevn did come...

Re: Lee Bains III & The Glory Fires

Glory Fires are playing at The EARL in Atlanta on Jan 4th, and my wife and I might be in the area. If so, we'll be staying far enough away that we'd have to drive to the show, so I was wondering what the parking situation is close to the EARL? There's a parking lot behind the Earl, but it can fill ...

Re: Lee Bains III & The Glory Fires

What a great night. The Glory Fires did three songs on their own (I think one of them was new), then brought out Swamp. His voice still sounds awesome, and they did a ton of stuff from Total Destruction, Rat On!, and Gag a Maggot. The best was after they basically annihilated the place with Total De...

Re: Atlanta area Christmastime shows

The 20th and 21st at the Earl are the annual Charlie Brown Christmas shows. They get local musicians to cover all the music from the special with it playing the background. The openers usually cover another famous Christmas album--it was the Ventures a couple of years ago. It's pretty fun, but it se...

Patterson & Jack Logan in conversation from the 90's

Jack Logan posted this over at his site, a local NPR show from the 90's that has him interviewing Patterson. I just fired it up for a listen. If you don't have Logan & Scott Baxendale's Bone in the Desert album, get it! One of my favorites of the year.
