Re: BBQ (and grilling) Thread

I’ll join the choir. I’ve had my WSM 22” since 2015. One suggestion is that I would upgrade the charcoal door immediately to stainless steel. Made it much easier to control the temp on the low end. I like to smoke at about 225° and I find it invaluable.

Y’all, Greetings all ye Heathens. Hard to believe its all here and now and yet it’s so not. I don't think there are adequate words to express my (our) deep and bitter disappointment to not be in Athens right now, playing Rock and Roll for all of you. I miss my band, my family, my many friends in Ath...

Honestly no matter people’s political affiliation it cannot be denied that he is the reason so many songs from those three albums came about and were released. To me it’s calling it what it is. Years later he will forever be tagged to those albums and that time period. Just as they wanted those son...

Word from the Hood- 11/3/2020 Election Day

Y’all, The day is upon us. Finally. It is my sincere hope that today will be a new beginning and the start of a time of rebuilding and healing. It’ll probably be rough going for a while at best but I am trying desperately to be hopeful. 2020 has been a shit show and has taken its toll on everyone I ...

If Go Go Boots was the country soul album, I’ve started to think of this one as their 1960s Atlantic Records/Stax/Muscle Shoals record.

Grievance Merchants is top shelf Cooley to me and I guess Sarah’s Flame just doesn’t match it for me. I really didn’t like Perilous Night when it came out, but I find this new mix to be really enjoyable. I remember critiquing it as being excessively political or topical, but it’s subject matter has...

I think you have a point with Sarah’s Flame, but it’s also historical as well as topical and it has great wordplay and a killer groove. The Perilous Night may not fare as well in a few years though despite being a great song. You never know.

The only overtly political songs on the album are Sarah’s Flame and, of course, The Perilous Night. The New OK and Watching the Orange Clouds are certainly socially co copy’s but I would not call them political as both sound deeply personal to these ears.

Re: The New OK - 10/2/2020 (Vinyl 12/18)

I suspect PH has spent a lot more time than we appreciate picking songs and sequencing them for this release. At least as to sequencing, Patterson has a well deserved reputation for the time, care and thought he puts into sequencing. If I try to take a stab at the feel of this album, it's warm nigh...

Re: The New OK - 10/2/2020 (Vinyl 12/18)

This is definitely a collection of B sides/left overs. Sea Island Lonely is one of my favorite Patterson songs in awhile. The 3 consecutive Patterson songs on the backside are all pretty solid. The front half is officially Neil Young “Monsanto Years” territory. I thought The Unraveling was pretty c...

I saw it with my own eyes on their website TC. It’s no longer there. I can’t prove it. I’ve researched and you’re right that language existed at one point. The board of the movement voted to remove it. I don’t agree with that language but I do get the point of a larger collective being a useful too...

Politically progressive people in big cities think of themselves as far more tolerant of those different from them compared to someone from the rural South. But how often do these people encounter anyone who isn’t pretty much exactly like them? I do t mean just passing the. On the street either. Wh...

Fascism: A form of far-right government that is ruled by an authoritarian leader. They work for a totalitarian one-party state. This aim is to prepare the nation for armed conflict, and to respond to economic difficulties. You can quibble with a point or two here as to whether Trump fits, but you ca...

Let's talk about luck for a second. Say you own a casino and against all, and I mean ALL, odds (see what i did there?) you're managing to run it into the ground. You've got a big loan payment due in a couple of days and you're sweating it out. What to do? What to do? Suddenly, a guy in a suit walks...

Y’all, My Heathen Songs show this week (#10) is Betamax Guillotine stories and songs related to Southern Rock Opera First time in nearly 2 decades I’ve done an acoustic version of some of this stuff. We recorded it 20 years ago this week and it came out 19 years ago last Friday. I have some surprise...
