Re: DBT Tracks #38 Space City

I don't have a lot to say because the song speaks for itself, but I'm glad this song hasn't been chosen yet, especially after watching The Secret to a Happy Ending. Cooley does the most amazing version sitting in front of his fireplace (I assume) telling the story of writing this song about his gra...

Hoping to come in from Chicago -- I have tickets and am trying to schedule a work thing out there that makes it feasible. Will do everything I can to make this show, it looks like a classic in the making.

Re: Who should open for DBT next tour?

I love that the Heartless Bastards have the honors this spring, but if I could pick any band for next tour, it would have to be Titus Andronicus. Titus Andronicus is a New Jersey band whose second record, "The Monitor" was my favorite album from last year. The songs are long and loud and ...

Re: space city 1/27/11

Wow. Can't wait to hear it. I'm sitting at my desk crying because I had to schedule a trip to Huntsville for work (first time ever), scheduled it around the rawk show (I ain't no fool), then someone else had to change the date because he was going to Alaska (in January, from Alabama, go figure). SO ...

Well, that looks really cool, but, IMHO, not worthy of a "special announcement". Just a normal one!

Let the Speculation Begin

So today's e-mail from DBT says, and I quote, "We have another VERY SPECIAL announcement that we will be making tomorrow so be sure to keep an eye on our website!!" Maybe they will be announcing that they will be doing SRO in its entirety in my living room this summer, but I doubt it. So w...

Re: 2 Chicago Shows in late February!!

By the way, its kind of strange that I learned of the show through the radio/Chicago media rather than through the DBT page, facebook or an e-mail sent by the world's greatest site manager. I'm hoping/assuming this will be one of a string of shows in the midwest that we will hear more about soon. An...

Re: Quicklists XXIII: Top 5 Died Too Soon

Maybe I missed it, but I just jumped on to this thread and haven't seen the name of the great Joe Strummer. Did he die before his time though? Obviously too young but musically he probably was never going to exceed his work with clash. Same reason I didn't list the great Warren Zevon. That's a pret...

Re: Cannery Ballroom, Nashville 1/29/11

My wife and I are coming in from Chicago for the show (can't make Athens this year). Never been to Nashville, so I have a few questions: (1) any suggestions on what neighborhood to stay near -- isn't there an entertainment district with lots of bars/music? If so, where is it? (2) how far is the Cann...

I know I am late to the party, but need to chime in and reiterate how great this band is. I've probably seen them about 8 times in Chicago and they have never disappointed me. I actually came to DBT through Slobberbone -- I saw them play together on a double bill in Chicago in Feb. 2002 and was blow...

I'm about halfway through, this is such good stuff I am taking my time to enjoy it, especially the music that David links to each post. I had sort of forgotten how much I liked this band until discovering this blog. The best part is that they came through Chicago last week and played a street fair -...

For you Cracker Fans

I know you are out there. Just found this great blog from David L that he started a few months ago -- he breaks down his songs one by one, randomly, telling a story about each one or some other story that may or may not be related to the song. Great stuff.

I think it's more likely that DBT will show up at one of the days they are not on tour. I'm guessing the Atlanta dates of October 23/24 are the prime candidate.

I'm fairly sure that the drummer and the singer/guitar player are Anglo... possibly teachers at the school. Never-the-less, pretty dang cool. J. On closer review, you are correct sir! On You Tube, the video is desribed as "Liang, Michael and Quincy". I am no chinese scholar, but I am thin...

Re: DeKalb, IL 7/11

I think Duke's comments are dead on. I thought it was a very good, but not quite classic, show. Like others, I was mentally prepared for a legendary rawk show, but I don't think the show was at that level. I was one of those 40 somethings having a rare night out with the Mrs and we came to have a go...
