Re: Dexateens -lots of info here

Pretty solid day considering I just found out I'll actually get to hear the Dexateens play in person and that they even have a new album. I love this band. BTW, is Matt Patton on the album?

Re: Lyrics to "Take Me To The Speedway"

Thanks, John A! Because of your post I just found out that they're playing in NYC in November. Thank you for helping me catch that! And while this should be in a different thread, I wonder why DBT didn't get a NYC tour date for the new record....

Re: Lyrics to "Take Me To The Speedway"

Nice to find that this post popped up on Google after searching for the lyrics (3DD is the best). I've been spinning Red Dust Rising this week and been wearing out Take Me to the Speedway. The lyrics are biting, the music is stellar, and FWIW I agree with Smitty's translation and interpretation. I a...

Re: Brooklyn March 6-7

See everyone tonight. And great review, Bubba (extra cool that you got The Company I Keep)! Finally, great job Clams and all for reliving the mayhem that was Brooklyn Bowl in 2011, which incidentally, was on my birthday. I have a signed Wes Freed poster from that show, which features the Brooklyn Br...

Meet the Mets!

Still on a high after the Mets' win last night, I just came across the below link that I had to share with the board (and hopefully Jay, even though he's likely a Yankees fan given his Yonkers background). When the Mets were born, they were introduced to the world to the tune of "Meet the Mets," whi...

Thoughts on DBT's Songwriting

My in-laws treated me to the Carole King musical, which in addition to being a fun show, was impressive in the sense of how many hit songs King wrote before going solo and writing more hits for herself. Seeing the show also spurred me to compare King with my favorite songwriters. What stuck in my mi...

Re: Smiling

Thanks Clams! That was a fun version and a great concert (funny enough Eyes Like Glue was my favorite). With respect to Keep on Smiling, I can understand if they want to keep that song for the three of them, but I still vote to bring it out once in a while. Regardless, it certainly was the perfect w...

Re: DBT Tracks --- Your Daddy Hates Me

I love how the sparse intro sets the stage for the anguish to come. The music just sets the mood perfectly. Bovine Knieval and Clams hit on one of the several lines that make this song classic Patterson. I particularly love "And it's a little too late for writing love songs, but I never did anything...

Smiling

How about DBT bring back Smiling? I had a rough day today and went right to this gem and it instantly did the trick. It's such a great and touchingly sweet song and it always sounded like the guys genuinely enjoyed playing it. Especially with Jay there to take the third verse, it sounds like a winne...

Re: Too many seats open at Tarrytown!!!

Jonicont eloquently summed up last night. I love this band so much. Just a few highlights: -Where did Wednesday come from?? Very pleased that I decided to listen to ABAAC and DD this weekend. -Same thing for Sounds Better in the Song. Jay's solo was virtuoso in quality. It was so good that even Cool...

6/20/2011. Brooklyn Bowl. Last minute. Scheduled 4 days before. Sold out. Open with the Southern Thing (second time being played in 2 1/2 years. A fucking barn burner show. Got the mic and bottle during People Who Died. Commotion on the floor. Damon diving off the stage, dragging some guy out. Patt...

Intro Playlist

I'm giving a friend of mine a DBT introduction CD tomorrow and was wondering what everyone thought of it. I kept the playlist to 10 songs so as not to overwhelm him. Here goes: 1. Sink Hole - I love the extended musical intro that quickly shows off the band's power and southern bona fides. A perfect...

I love this song, and I think the video is high art. Some reasons why: Just another reason why DBT gives meaning to the term, political band. Who else talks about foreclosure? Re: Track of the Week #119 - Mrs. Dubose

I agree the song may be out of place, but it's fantastic. GG hits the nail on the head by pointing out how intimate and true the recording is. No studio magic, just pure soul. In the book, Mrs. Dubose was a morphine addict who decided to get clean before passing on. Listening to the children read ga...

Re: Live music archive DBT

One of the best (if not the best) versions of Don't Be in Love Around Me I've ever heard. And AAW is my favorite album.

It then has a great rip through Steve McQueen, Uncle Frank and OOTD (sick version). Plus Keep on Smiling in the encore.

Re: DBT Playing Republican Convention: Is This For Real?

I was thinking about this last night, and one of our favorite lines sums this up for me: Rock and roll means well, but it can't help telling young boys lie. I'm sure that DBT wants nothing to do with a private party that's not personally relevant to them (i.e., a friend's wedding or Headhunter's law...

Re: DBT Playing Republican Convention: Is This For Real?

Mrs. Clams is PISSED about this. Sounds like an Avon Lady reference right there. I like it. * * * I call shenanigans on all of this. No way it happens. I have no problems with a band that has scratched a living their way to make some crucially needed money on the side doing commercials, or even pla...
