Re: New Daniel Hutchens Album

The record release party was fantastic. During the second set Danny was backed by a band that included David Barbe, Brad Morgan and John Neff. (I believe that was the first time Brad and John played together since Neff left DBT.) Bloodkin is one of Athens' most legendary bands, having been together ...

New Daniel Hutchens Album

The official release of Daniel Hutchens' new album "The Beautiful Vicious Circle of Life is here. The record was produced by Dave Schools and engineered by David Barbe. This is a personal album exploring themes of mid life crisis and regeneration. It contains some of Danny's finest songs. The record...

Re: Patterson and family moving from Athens to Portland

I wonder how RevMatt is taking this. Thanks for the concern. I am doing ok I guess. On Wednesday I took a shower for the first time since the Hoods left and I went into town and bought a brand new bathrobe. I thought about going to Flicker but the memories associated with old Pat and the bar depres...

Either way, it is irrelevant because I'm done here. The only reason I posted here today is because some Obama hater's been trolling my Facebook page. This is my 19th post of 2015. Probably about 18 too many.

Re: Anybody been to a bad show?

One of the things I've noticed is when The Truckers deliver an epic three plus hour set and have to travel to another city to play a show the following night their fatigue often shows. Not that they deliver a "bad" show in terms of a train wreck. Just that the energy level and concentration isn't a...

I didn't say give the band extra money or something like buying two tickets but only go to one show. Just commemorate the anniversary in our own way. Something different. Something fun. Something initiated by the fans, not the other way around.

They are playing the song in tribute to Phil, a young Athens musician who died suddenly a couple of weeks back. Phil was a Camp Amped alumni and had gone out on the road with The Truckers as part of an internship where he learned how to do the work of a guitar tech. Last week there was a tribute sho...

The 20th Anniversary should be awesome. Much of this thread is about what DBT should do to commemorate their 20th anniversary. But what are some things we, the fans, could do for The Truckers and their crew to commemorate this milestone? At Homecoming these past few years the fans have made donatio...

Re: Film: Acoustic with Patterson Hood - Network 4.13.15

Interesting choice of a film and I am curious to hear what Patterson has to say about it. Patterson often surprises me. From his music I would expect him to be a big outlaw country fan but he is more likely to be listening to Big Star than Red Headed Stranger . With film I would expect a heavier dra...

Capsula

I recently moved from New Jersey to Athens. One of the things I make a point of doing is catching touring bands in the smaller rooms on Monday nights. It is the toughest night of the week from a band's perspective. Last night I caught Capsula at The Caledonia Lounge. I had never heard them before an...

Re: How young is too young?-The Dirt Underneath

Bringing children to concerts is tricky. If they want to leave at any point before the end of the show it is pretty much the end of your night. When my youngest was 15 I took him to the Halloween show in Richmond. Including encores, the band played over three hours that night. My son reached his lim...

Re: dbt opening for eric church

Message boards, IMO, are a better format for threaded discussions. But you are right. Facebook has made many obsolete. I think 3DD is going strong because of the diversity of topics. Far easier to manage than Facebook where only the popular threads are easy to access.

Re: dbt opening for eric church

Every web community has its particularities and when active membership reaches a certain level there are bound to be factions, feuds and flame wars. I don't think it is productive to criticize the members of another DBT community. Or at least we should try to take an honest look at ourselves before ...

Re: DBTs at Todos Santos in January 2015

I would have liked to go too but there are only so many of the "Premium" type shows a fan can attend in a year. Homecoming is in less than a month (though since I am now living in Athens I don't think it counts as a premium show for me) and I am sure there will be other opportunities this ...

All that is required to cover somebody else's song is a mechanical license. You do not even need that band's or publishing company's permission. From legal zoom Recording Cover Songs A different situation is presented if your band, instead of simply wanting to cover a song live, decides it wants to ...

Re: dbt opening for eric church

For fifteen years after the first Ramones album people said that punk rock would never appeal to the mainstream. Then Nirvana finally broke that barrier in 1992. I really think it will happen with country music because it has happened before. Waylon and Willie bucked the system and had mainstream su...

My fave musical discovery of 2014 is Windhand, a metal band from Richmond, VA. I absolutely fell in love with this band over the summer.
