That's right! I forget that was between AB and The Unraveling, not before.

Re: Welcome to Club XIII
Also, how is it that, 14 posts in, no one has mentioned yet that we're back to Wes artwork??!
Maybe I'm superstitious, but I think that bodes well for the record.

Re: Welcome to Club XIII
I really like the single! Am I really in the minority here? That Radio Tokyo line is gold. And I'm also happy that Billy Ringo made the cut. I think that's one of Patterson's best in years. Excited for this. Also--not to start a big thing--but I'm happy to read that this will be a "less political" a...

You got me curious. Where did he lose you? Do you remember where you stopped reading? You weren't asking me, but fwiw, he lost me here: "HBO Max recently announced that it won't be showing Gone With the Wind (at least for now). Good riddance!" I've never seen Gone With The Wind but this is a slippe...

Re: Isbell on Political Songs and Songwriting
I think Jason can be an artist who is making so-so music that has drifted away from his early roots without being a Machievellian Nashville "goblin". Jesus Christ His music is beside the point, as are his politics. It is his online persona I find insufferable (this recent flap is just the latest ex...

I agree with this 100%, and Todd is a perfect exampleIowan wrote:[ he could take a page from Todd Snider's playbook regarding politics. No one has any misgivings about where Todd stands, but he's never self righteous or belittling.

Surely I am not the only one who prefers Isbell the Chubby Fratboy Poet to the self-righteous, sub-Ryan Adams Nashville goblin he has become?

For that matter, I also think BTCD would be a stronger album if they cut the weakest five songs (although I realize we'd never find a consensus on which five that means). Well I can think of three right off the bat  I see what you did there. "I'm Sorry Huston" and "The Purgatory Line...

Waiting on physical copies here as well. Is there a lyrics document floating around here, anywhere, like we had with American Band? Some of yall are being entirely too hard on this album. Two listens in, I already prefer it to AB. I think the entire first side, in particular, is terrific. The album it most closely reminds me of is GGB, which I realize is not an especially popular one around here, but given that it's probably my ...

No "Billy Ringo In The Dark!" I love that one. Maybe Patterson's saving it for a solo album.

Wasn't sure I was going to like the re-recorded vocals but I think Patterson did a good job capturing the vibe of the original recording. The new vocals fit perfectly somehow. Nice to have this album in good quality, it's a good one!

Any mix that favors Keith is ok by me! He's by far the most underrated member of the Dead imo. Also, Bobby's playing on a lot of this is revelatory. I can listen to Jerry solo all day, of course, but it's cool to hear the other guys so prominently for a change. Really makes you appreciate the fact t...

Mine arrived yesterday. Tis indeed a thing of beauty! Of course, I'd have been happy with a practical box with just the CDs, but whatever, that's Rhino for you. 6/22/73 and 5/19/74 are two of the best shows of the period, and the rest is just a bonus afaic. So great to hear terrific recordings of th...

Re: Never Had Such A Good Time/The Grateful Dead Thread
Decided to sit out the Dave's Picks subscription this year. I'm drowning in 70s Dead, and I didn't even open the last two they sent. I also missed the 'early bird' window, so it's tougher to get inspired to take the plunge. But yeah, I generally feel like the series favors 70s shows (and--don't get ...

Re: RIP Jessi Zazu (Those Darlins')
Of the three Darlins, I was probably least acquainted with Jessi, though we hung out a few times, the way you do in a small town where everyone plays music and everyone drinks. My favorite memory is being at a party at the Darlins house in Murfreesboro. It was your standard "musicians getting wasted...

I thought it started out strong but went downhill fast. Reverted to the old music doc trope of talking heads, aging hippies waxing philosophical, etc. More shots of roadies doing nitrous and hollow-eyed, stereotype-affirming Deadhead morons than of Keith, Dick, Owsley, etc, and nothing about Betty. ...

Re: Never Had Such A Good Time/The Grateful Dead Thread
Which one is damaged? My discs 2s of both New Haven and Boston were messed up, so I wrote Rhino and within a week or so they had sent replacement discs in little white sleeves. Did you write Dr. Rhino? This has been a pretty common issue, I guess, so they may just be flooded with emails right now. L...
