Re: Heathens Homecoming 2024
My understanding based on incomplete knowledge is that the weekend's activities raised about $64K for Nuci's Space. PS While I paid less attention to the demographics this year than i have in the past, my impression is that the encouraging trend towards a younger more female audience that I identif...

Technical question which requires a ruling from the poobahs: Are we dating things to the Wednesday Dimmer Twins outing or to the first rock show on Thursday? These things are important. To somebody. Maybe. What an excellent question, Bubba! I know that inquiring minds want to know! 😉 I'm using Wedn...

Re: Heathens Homecoming 2024
I’m getting pretty excited to see everyone. My old buddy, JR, who came last year as a HHC virgin is joining me again this year. I’ll see y’all in a few weeks… We're looking forward to see everyone, as well! The old excitement is building. On that note, how about some nostalgia? https://www.thefacts...

My brother-in-law has a career at Costco and they pay him really well so I will never talk shit on them since they take good care of my sister and niece. Relative to other retail stores, they value their employees. I feel better about shopping there because of the way they treat their people. I buy...

Rudy, Rudy, Rudy. The man is no longer even a shadow of his former self. From the NYT, re the election workers Rudy accused of election fraud: "In a two-page declaration, Mr. Giuliani acknowledged that he had in fact made the statements about Ms. Freeman and Ms. Moss that led to the filing of the s...

Re: Gone but not forgotten....
Sadly, we lost my dad on Sunday night to the evil beast that is pancreatic cancer. Obviously our family is devastated, even though this was the outcome we knew was coming for the past month or so. Over the years, we attended probably something like 15-20 DBT (as well as numerous other adjacent band...

Re: The Dirty South-Reissue Preorder
Meh is all I can say. I can appreciate what they did but I doubt this will get much replay. I don’t mean to be a stick in the mud, but the original is still the definitive version for me. A bit unnecessary to be honest. That’s a valid opinion. As for me when I revisited that era over the last decad...

Re: The Dirty South-Reissue Preorder
Unfortunately, this seems to be an off-center pressing on LP2. It only seems to affect Side D. I got the whiskey-colored collector’s edition and, e.g., Goddamn Lonely Love is basically unlistenable with all the pitch drift. Anyone else? I have an email ticket in to New West about it. I’ll keep y’al...

Re: The Dirty South-Reissue Preorder
The resequencing threw me for a loop. I also assumed that they would be using the Fine Print versions of the cut songs, so was surprised to hear these new takes. Like bubba, I still prefer the swampy BTCD version of Goode’s Or the even swampier, more menacing versions of the last four or five years.

Re: Jason Isbell - Weathervanes
It’s a stunning record, and I was not expecting it. The expansive production with individual instrumentation standing out in the mix is a far cry from Dave Cobb’s “wash of sound with the vocals in top” approach.

Re: Books Thread
After fifteen years, I finally got around to FDR by Jean Edward Smith. Considered by many to be the definitive biography, I've known of it but never had the time. Lately, I've been into audiobooks when I walk and in the house when Beth is working (her office is in the middle of the house), so I dove...

Re: The TV thread
Im five or so episodes in and while good...as btb said, it is a lot. I think "Swingers and Spies" would have been a better title. :) Might be a UK/US cultural difference but I actually find a story about leading politicians all fucking each other behind closed doors perfectly plausible. In reality ...

Re: The TV thread
Finished all eight episodes and found it quite entertaining. Can't argue with that in that we did watch the whole series, it moved along at a nice pace and it was not w/out its pleasures. But boy one had to suspend an overwhelming amount of disbelief. Side note: The reference to Birnam Wood and Dun...

We loved this one, and I thought the music was much better than one would expect. They said, there are so few series I can make past two episodes that give me Rock & Roll, competently done, and I'm in.

Re: What's Everyone Listening to?
Say you're in the mood for some music by Neil Young. How the heck do you (the general you) decide what to listen to? Neil isn't one artist. He's at least three (Crazy Horse, acoustic Neil, eclectic Neil) and maybe more, depending on how you want to dice it. For me, while I'm glad to have had my pha...

None of the three do much for me. I like everything about the guy, I just wish I liked his music more. I did enjoy Reunions quite a bit so I had hopes but so far it's not working.

Absolutely loving this album. Thank you to everyone on this thread that praised it. I love the early 90s, shoegaze vibe they have but they're also absolutely 100% their own thing. Sorry I didn't see them in Athens. I hear a lot of Pavement in their sound too, but definitely their own take on all th...

I put on their latest album and didn’t make it through two songs You don't seem to like much of anything new these days. Those same two tracks you couldn't make it through compelled me to raise the volume until it shook the house. By far the best opening of an album this year. Different strokes and...

Very different for sure. Only one listen in, but I strongly prefer the original version. I agree about the vocals but I think the remastered music on the new version sounds a lot better Does anyone know if all of the songs are going to have new vocal tracks? I'm down for remastering to clean up the...
