So disappointing, but glad I finally got to see them in Nashville in 2019, and wish Brian nothing but the best in retirement. Also glad they went out on Bit Logic, which I thought was a pretty damn solid album.
After listening all weekend, my 2 cents on the album: 1. The New OK - I wasn’t quite sold on this one originally, but it grew on me very quickly. For some reason I love the “weighted blanket in a swimming pool” line. 2. Tough to Let Go - I think this is my least favorite song on the album? It’s not ...
Didn’t know if the studio version of Dead Confederate would live up to what we got at Homecoming, but it came through in spades. Jason’s guitar adds a lot to it.
Courtesy of Erd on facebook, this is a new record by a band called Country Westerns which is a new project by Joe Plunkett formerly of The Weight of Are Men fame. Talk about a blast from the 3dd past. https://m.media-amazon.com/images/I/61bv23fiFbL.jpg These guys used to be EVERYWHERE here in Nashv...
A local radio station here in Nashville played the album in its entirety last night. My immediate takeaways: 1. What’ve I Done to Help is probably one of my least favorite songs Jason has ever released. It’s not unlistenable bad, but it seems like he puts one long, overdone song on every album (save...
Man, this sucks. The first night in Nashville was the most excited I’ve been for a show since my first Homecoming a couple years ago. On the bright side, I’m glad it sounds like Sturgill did what he could to get people’s money back in their pockets.
Great interview, was especially nice they got some input from Patterson on the pre-Southeastern years. Good read regardless of how you feel about his newer music (or if you just wanna make fun of some of his ridiculous outfits).
Patterson played another new one on Willie Nelson’s livestream tonight. Didn’t catch the name, but it was an, ummmm, interesting one about getting caught with weed and women’s underwear in Vancouver customs. Can’t say it isn’t timely
Lake Marie is my favorite Prine song some days. It encapsulates all the things that make him great. All the love we shared between her and me was slammed Slammed up against the banks of Old Lake Marie At the very least, his best song to hear live. He was in his 70s on stage moving like a man half a...
I think the first time I heard John Prine was in college. I have no recollection of the context, but apart from maybe DBT I’m not sure there’s anyone’s music I’ve fallen in love with faster. I went out and bought his first album a few days later. The 1st time I saw him live was in 2017 with Jason Is...
Monitoring this thread, thanks for the reviews Cortez. I’ve enjoyed the GBV albums I’ve heard these last few years, but had no idea where to dive into the older stuff.
Also I had no idea Bobby Bare Jr. was part of the band??? Not sure how I missed that.
There was a new Isbell song Friday, and not a single mention yet in this thread. I would say that speaks volumes. For the record, it's better than the other two, but that doesn't mean much. I actually really like this new one. Hoping the rest of the record veers more towards it and Overseas territo...
