RSD Black Friday Plan 9 Records July 13, 2006 3xLP

This is pretty exciting, assuming the recording and sound quality were good. We don't have a live album document from the Isbell era (we do have the 40 Watt DVD). This will scratch that itch. Way more excited for this than for the ACL release. 3800 is a pretty decent number, too, so I don't think w...

Re: The New OK - 10/2/2020 (Vinyl 12/18)

He seems to reserve special ire for those who prey on what he sees are the insecurities, prejudices, and fears of the sorts of working-class people he knows from his own experience. He said as much in that song-by-song series he and Patterson did with Craig Finn after American Band came out. 7:57 h...

Re: The New OK - 10/2/2020 (Vinyl 12/18)

I love Seger. But listen to (song) Night Moves and (song) The River back to back. Yeah, maybe there’s a dig, but it’s about not being able to see all the possibilities. That line in Sarah’s Flame reminds me of Free Bird/Sounds Better in the Song. I did this while walking my dog this evening, and th...

If we’re talking best lines in Sarah’s Flame, I want to throw into the mix the line about Night Moves and The River.
It's a great line. But what's wrong with Night Moves? David Hood plays on that record, for god's sake!

Re: The New OK - 10/2/2020 (Vinyl 12/18)

Sarah's Flame isn't Cooley's best song, but it showcases his personality as well as any other he's written - the humor and the razor sharp insight alike. Plus it makes a perfect pairing with Sea Island Lonely in the middle of the album. The soul interlude. And that one line. About the pants. You kn...

Re: The New OK - 10/2/2020 (Vinyl 12/18)

I understand trying to spread the vocals a bit especially with a lack of Cooley but I think the only big misstep here is the Matt Patton vocal on the song The Unraveling. Patterson wrote this, right? I love our bass man but come on, he’s simply not a strong vocalist. I think his vocal fits the song...

Re: Live from Austin, TX on 2xLP

It should be noted that the band has a very good relationship with New West now. The assholes they referenced are long gone. New West is actually in Athens now. Good clarification. Patterson suggests as much in that "Assholes" thread, so it's good to keep in mind. I will probably buy the ACL releas...

Re: What's Everyone Listening to?

Crazy how far she's come from her original sound. It's like she's a different person (I'm thinking that's the point) I really like it. Feels like a natural progression from Real. Definitely more pop than anything she's done but her voice sounds great. And my vinyl arrived today just in time. The ar...

Re: The Neverending Thread for Political Shit

One of the many mysteries of the Trump phenomenon is that working people somehow identify with him and think that Trump knows them, cares about them and represents their interests. This seems self evidently preposterous to me but let's say there are legit reasons for some people reacting this way o...

Not sure if this is the correct place to post this, but while reading Cole and Tinnitus' back and forth, I thought a lot about this clip from Friday:

I think it fits quite nicely here. I've probably watched the entire thing fives times already. It's very well done and heartfelt.

i'm glad we agree on those things, Cole. the problem is that they continue to happen. I mean, the reason some of these flashpoint issues have stirred up violence is that they were recorded. how many instances don't go recorded, now or in the past? again i am not condoning violence, but i think i ca...

Re: What's Everyone Listening to?

The two songs released from Jeff Tweedy's upcoming solo album are better than anything on Wilco's last record I almost enjoyed Wilco's last album, but I've been pretty fucking bored pretty quickly with anything Tweedy has put out the last 5-6 years. It just all kind of rides that quiet, fuzzy vibe ...

FNW Yeah, I remember when they re-released Jason's Live at Twist and Shout EP a couple years back, he went on Twitter and all but told people not to buy it. I remember FNW being on Shonna's bass back in the day. Funny, at first I thought it meant F'n W, as in George Bush... Isn't the song "Assholes...

Live from Austin, TX on 2xLP

Stumbled upon this while perusing Jackpot Records' website. Out 10/23. Considering it's on New West and not ATO, I don't know how much the band had to do with this or if they will even be promoting it, but figured it merited a post here.
