Re: 50 best live records of all time

The Stand in the Fire version of "Jeanie Needs a Shooter" came on my playlist during my run this morning. That version is phenomenal, way better than the studio version, which is kind of limp and bland.

Stand in the Fire is great, and truly worthy of the list.

First Concert — Aerosmith 1977. I was 14, the concert was two hours away. I went with a bunch of older teenagers who dropped me off at home about 4am, reeking of booze and smoke. My parents would not let me go to any more concerts until I was 18! Last Concert —Doobie Brothers at the local casino Bes...

Re: R.I.P. Kelley Looney (Steve Earle & The Dukes...)

When we saw them this spring Worrierqueen kept telling me how bad the bass player looked. He seemed sick. Sat down on a few songs. I didn't see anywhere what the cause of death was, but he didn't look to be in good shape a few months ago.

Very sad.

Re: Songs you sing and like but don't love

This Beat Goes On/Switching to Glide by The Kings came on the iPhone while I was mowing this weekend. I sang it so the whole neighborhood could hear. It's cheesier than all of Wisconsin, but it's great cheese. I'll sing it again, next time I hear it. Boom Boom Mancini is awesome, BTW. Worrierking ap...

Re: Who's Everyone Seeing Live?

I don't see nearly as many shows as most of you here, but I had to mention my Hill Country weekend with Lyle Lovett at the Moody Theatre in Austin and Ray Wiley Hubbard at the famed Luckenback Dance Hall on Saturday. Fantastic weekend. Ray Wiley was a bucket list item checked (and shockingly, my wif...

Man what a summer. So many huge, historical events.

The Good: Trout Mask Replica, Apollo 11, Woodstock.
The Bad: Chappaquiddick, the Manson Murders, Hurricane Camille, Bryan Adams got his first real six-string.

Re: artist of the week 10.29.12: chuck prophet

"Jesus Was a Social Drinker" came on during my morning run today, an easy four-miler. A line of thunderstorms had passed through Southwest Louisiana early this morning and I checked the radar before I went out and everything looked fine. As I enjoyed the song some light rain began to fall again. Ju...

Re: The Scruffy Charm of the Audience Tape

You can read about a lot of the taping legends like "Mike the Mic" and others at the Pink Floyd and Led Zeppelin boards. I think back to all the shows I saw in the late 70s and early 80s where I could have taped some of these shows pretty easily. Now, the tech is so easy and I don't care enough!

I will check Los Lobos off my bucket list tonight. It's a Casino show so I suspect it will be short, but to have them visit my town is an honor. I've been a fan since 1984 but have never made a show.

It's mostly a joke by now. It's fun to poke at Jann Wenner. I don't really care if Zevon gets in all that much. He probably gets as much publicity out of being the most obvious omission each year than he would if he actually got in.

Jann Wenner's dead body
You had me excited there for a minute! ;)

I obviously support Zevon for the hall. When I visited a few years ago I saw some cool memorabilia from Zevon, including the original Lyric sheet for "Play it All Night Long."

Re: On the streets of a runaway American Dream

Maybe I'm the only one who thinks this way, but I never bought into the idea that Bruce was a hero of the working class, even though his music was all about that. I grew up in a small Illinois town and saw the shoe factory close down in the early 70s and 400 jobs left a town of 6000. But in the 70s,...

If they play "Oh Well," with Neil on vocals, that would make (at least) five different lead singers to have performed on the song live in Fleetwood Mac (Peter Green, Bob Welch, Lindsay, Billy Burnette and Neil). I am not excited about Neil joining FM. I think I would be happier if John and Mick had ...

Plus, my wife is one of the "NPR fans." I introduced her to Jason's music last fall and he's her favorite artist now (I tried to get h...

I think Elephant is at the top of my list too. The first time I heard it and he cut loose the F-bomb, I spent the rest of the song saying to myself, "Wait, does she have cancer? Did he just say that about a cancer patient?" One of the most jarring moments I have ever had in listening to a song. Heck...
