Re: Incredibly sad after tonight's show....

Saw this quote from P. Hood making the rounds on FB today. Seems apropos to this thread. "Then I’m part of this band that tours. My job is to take the songs we’ve got - old and new - and build a show that showcases our new record and take it out there to the people town to town and play every night...

Re: Incredibly sad after tonight's show....

I never said anyone had to agree with every word. I'm saying it's hypocritical for "fans" to have negative thoughts about the band they love because of their beliefs as a band. Music is art and art is performance. Those same fans can run their mouths about every one of their opinions without any ba...

By "fans" judging a band's art and performance when there is zero backlash for those same said "fans" having their personal opinions on everything. That's how.

Re: Incredibly sad after tonight's show....

My point is why are "fans" up in arms about a band's opinion or political leanings? They aren't judging us in any way as we are allowed to spout off whatever we want, sometimes in a very uneducated way. It seems like maybe the word fandom has become very hypocritical and one sided, almost like a "G...

Re: Incredibly sad after tonight's show....

In all honesty this has turned into a political debate which really isn't the purpose. People can say everyone they know voted for Trump and so on but Hillary won the popular vote. So there were 1 or 2 Hillary voters out there lol. Due to an outdated 18th century means however Donald is president an...

Re: Incredibly sad after tonight's show....

Last time I checked Cooley and the rest of the band made it clear they didn't care who they offended and they weren't going to change on their political stance and being outspoken. God Bless them for that. Modern music is too submissive in thoughts and beliefs these days. If an artist wants to make ...

Re: Incredibly sad after tonight's show....

I've loved all their comments from day one and mine are even further left then theirs lol. Yes that's possible. I think the country as a whole needs to quit being over sensitive about everything. Artists have always chosen their freedom of speech right in music, this is no different.

Currently spinning 'Silver Tears' by Aaron Lee Tasjan and 'Midwest Side Stories' by Chicago Farmer. I love both of them. Amazing artists and two great start to finish gems.

Re: English Oceans Discussion Thread

The nice thing about when your favorite band releases a new album is that it naturally makes you go back and listen to previous ones. I often find a deeper appreciation for the albums and find that some of the songs I discredited early on im now very fond of. It takes a band that continues to releas...

Re: DBT Albums: Week 11 Go-Go Boots

Girls Who Smoke is a killer tune I wish would have made TBTD. I know some people dislike a few songs on both TBTD and GGB but for me that's what makes them both individually great. I for one think they are split correctly as far as sound and theme go. Flying Wallendas has really grown on me over the...

Re: English Oceans Discussion Thread

I like EO so much because it represents a return to prolific songwriting for Mike Cooley. Over the years I've really grown to love "Natural Light and First Air of Autumn". I too think "Primer Coat" is the best song on the album. This album I really liked Hood's songs. "Pauline Hawkins, Part of Him a...

Re: DBT Albums: Week 11 Go-Go Boots

Glad to see the GGB thread is still alive lol. This album gets regular spins weekly/monthly for me. Hands down one of my favorite ever DBT albums. Songs like "Cartoon Gold, The Weakest Man, Used to Be a Cop, Pulaski and Mercy Buckets" make this album timeless for me as a listener. I have really felt...

Re: American Band- 9/30/16

I've come to the realization that I really, really, REALLY don't like piano in DBT songs. More on that later. Very curious to hear that when you're ready. I've thought for a while that if they let Jay go nuts on the piano, widespread-style, it would be veddy interesting to see what that did for the...

Re: American Band- 9/30/16

What's nice about any DBT album I've ever first listened to is....songs over time really grow on me. The one that has for me is "When the Sun Don't Shine". At first I wasn't a big fan but where it fits in the album and the simplicity of it really works for me. The flip side for me is that there are ...

After about 100 solid listens here is how I rank the tracks from my favorite to least favorite. Once They Banned Imagine(might be a top 5 DBT song ever for me after seeing it in KC live and its meaning) Filthy and Fried(ridiculous amount of lyrical riches) What It Means (needed to be written as poin...

I loved Neff's contributions on albums he was very good and Spooner Oldham on BTCD blew me away for sure. It's been great to watch Jay grow over the last few albums in the band. It's easy to like Cooley and his songs. They are catchy with witty word play. It is more challenging for a listener to buy into Patterson's songs. That being said the depth and understanding in his songs come to a listener after multiple listens where Cooley's usually hit you the first time through...

Re: 9/23/16 Kansas City, MO

Like most in here I've seen DBT many times. This hands down was the best show I've seen by them. Their sound was tight the guitar playing phenomenal and Jay G was unreal on the keys. Vocally both Hood and Cooley sounded crystal clear. Highlights for me were 'Once They Banned Imagine' 'Ramon Casiano'...

Re: American Band- 9/30/16

Patterson's unconventional phrasing in his songs and an honesty and realness in his voice is exactly why I love so many of his songs. He is very unique and most of the time a heart on the sleeve poet. I agree with all who say Cooley is a brilliant guitarist. I feel one of the best in all of music an...

I've listened to it for a bit now and it's one of my favorite all time DBT records due to the lyrics, views and overall sound. Artists are storytellers and observers of society. They don't have to live a particular life to make those observations or tell a story or have the right to do so. NWA didn't live any of the life they rapped about and were complete fakes to that lifestyle except Eazy E's small time drug dealing he d...
