Re: The Ryman

I thought the sound was good. It was a little weird to see Cooley on the right but the voice coming from the left. I noticed that Jay was back to his normal SG (the one I call his Badfinger guitar) and didn't have that unusual P90 mid 70s one he got after he got freaked out when Patterson broke his ...

Traffic downtown is heavy starting about 3:30 - 4 pm. Hits its peak around 5 - 5:30. Plan accordingly.

Re: The Ryman

As far as parking goes, if you get downtown around 5, you can park on the street by feeding an hour's worth of quarters into the meter because it's free parking after 6pm. We have Uber here so you aren't limited to cabs. If you have a lot of coin to drop, you might find the band eating pre-show at ...

Re: The Ryman

After Lexington, I decided that get togethers weren't something that people were all that into. But for those who want to, here's a primer. First of all, parking is at a premium downtown. For those arriving early by car, unless you are staying downtown, which is highly unlikely considering the cost ...

This is a fun romp by Nashville artist Pujol.

I was wondering what Aimee Mann's role was going to be. As much as I like Aimee (and that's A LOT), I was skeptical about how she would have fit in.

I shouldn't have worried.

Re: Explain the Clash To Me: Artist of the Week 9/22/2014

As to the second point, I think that sometimes, learning about it after the fact can give an objectivity that can be more useful because, by removing the "in the moment" emotional aspect, it can put a better value on the parts of the whole. This is the old "sounds dated" concept...

You can't discount the "sea change" aspect of '77 - '81. Every month (sometimes every week) brought another revelation and built on the last one. This is part of the "helps to have been there" aspect. No question that's true but I think it was immediately followed by another one...

Re: Explain the Clash To Me: Artist of the Week 9/22/2014

Both the Dolls and the Stooges had released their major albums and broken up before the Clash released anything. To me the mystery is why the Ramones didn't get to ride the wave created by the Clash - like Big Star among many others, the Ramones didn't become big until years later and even then it ...

Re: Explain the Clash To Me: Artist of the Week 9/22/2014

On the next album, this was the lead track. Despite Sandy Perlman's attempt to turn them into Blue Oyster Cult, the energy was still there. Frankly, they still sound fresher to this day than The Ramones do on their early albums (somehow, they seem just a little sluggish than their later efforts and ...

Re: Explain the Clash To Me: Artist of the Week 9/22/2014

I think it helps to have been there at the sea change. Even though the Ramones were there first, they weren't very well known in the beginning. The Clash, along with the Sex Pistols, really changed the game at the beginning. Their sound was like a hurricane and nobody had ever heard anything like it...

Got my fingers crossed Tyler. It does appear to be on a continuous loop. I wonder how much longer it will be up? I can't get over how crystal clear the video is. The mix was really good as well, Cooley's vocals and Jay's guitar especially (and bass and drums were just about perfect). The last time ...

Meant mid-tour not in the strictest sense. But yes, it was odd, not only because of the announcement of two more shows but because there weren't that many shows left. Weird indeed. I was looking forward to seeing them at Mercy Lounge, which is a pretty small place. I'm just glad I saw them a couple ...
