Re: Isbell SOTW Week 12 - Stopping By
I've always assumed the protagonist was make, the teenage girl in Chattanooga his mother, and never considered it otherwise. Interesting to listen to it the other ways now.

Re: Isbell SOTW # 8 - In a Razor Town
Hands down my favorite song of Jason's. Beautifully heartbreaking, and I love the way the protagonist wants to believe that things may work out, but knows deep down it won't. I can't break this song down any better than whoever wrote this did, so I'll just share it here. The town: The song is set in...

This song is somewhat nostalgic to me. I swear, listening to it makes me actually feel a youthfulness, more so, than remember one.

Re: Isbell SOTW Week 5 - Different Days
Wal-Mart has missing kids and runaway on the wall. If the protagonist's inspiration comes from WalMart photos, this song just got a lot more depressing It actually is from Wal-Mart photos. Jason said late one night he needed some pajama jeans or something, and WalMart was the only place open that h...

Re: Isbell SOTW Week 3 - Grown
I took it to be about your first sexual relationship. I've always loved this song. In the story from the show, Jason says something along the lines of, "In real life this was a whole lot more innocent than how it sounds in the song..." I'd like to know how Sunnie felt about it when she first heard ...

Re: Isbell SOTW Week 1 - Alabama Pines
This one is an easy song to play, sing and sing along to but yet is has depth as a character study. That's a difficult thing to pull off. Indeed. It feels light and breezy, but the words cover weighty ground. What do y'all make of the "I tried to be some ancient kind of man one that's never seen th...

Re: Ranking Jason's songs
Smitty made me remember this and wonder where the new songs fit in. Turns out, for me, mostly doubles and triples. I'm 30 or 40 spins in, so I think they're settling in for now; too early to say if that's where they'll stay. Children might rise, a few others may trade places. Alphabetical within ca...

If that's the case, he's really out of touch with the modern mainstream country listeners.Smitty wrote:jbshelton wrote: It Takes A Lifetime, SMTF, and Palmetto Rose, right off hand, seem to be trying to tap into the current country music audience. .

Also saw him do Richard Thompson's "Keep Your Distance" at the Franklin Theatre in 2012. You can download the show somewhere.

Re: Cooley, Hood and Isbell together for Terry Pace Benefit
Does anyone know what the show is gonna be like? Is it essentially JI rejoining the Truckers for a night, or more likely the three of them sitting on stage taking turns playing songs? The billing alludes to the latter but it's hard for me to imagine them sharing a stage again without a rock show. An...
