Re: American Band reviews

Love Each Other, MotherFuckers I want to start a campaign to get this guy to homecoming. I want him to meet Patterson. Who is with me? This sounds like a significant undertaking because presumably it will involve at least one other family member. But hell yeah, just tell me where to send the check....

Because the way this kid looks affects what he has to say about American Band. Bet you were hell on the grade school playground.

Re: Incredibly sad after tonight's show....

I'm sorry that you felt uncomfortable with what was said onstage. I'm also trying to figure out how I'd feel if a band I loved were highly vocal Trump supporters and I have to respect your ability to separate their art from their politics. I'm not sure that I could do it. I certainly can't speak for...

Re: December solo shows!

Beaverdam, there are two Hampton Inns in Florence that I'd recommend. The one downtown is closer to the venue, but the other is not unreasonably far.

Re: Dimmer Twins Sunday August 7 @ Standard Deluxe Waverly,

I should probably change it or at least come up with a disclaimer like "Clams is in no way responsible for the content of this post." Or is the content usually so goofy that you'd still laugh out loud anyway?

Re: Birmingham - Lyric Theatre - April 7-8-9, 2016

No, it didn't ruin my night. I posted something about it on one of the DBT fan pages on Facebook and it was a real eye-opener. You'd have thought by some people's reaction that I'd accused Patterson of wearing a pink tutu while he watches Lawrence Welk or something . It's clearly my problem and I kn...

Re: Birmingham - Lyric Theatre - April 7-8-9, 2016

Agreed, it was a great show. The restored Lyric is beautiful, the sound was amazingly good and Schlanky's right; I don't think there's a bad seat in the house. DBT gets better every time I see them - Love Like This, Ever South, Ghost to Most, and Birthday Boy were particular standouts for me. The ne...

Is anyone going on Thursday night? TC, I was hoping to catch up with you and Lurleen. I met her at the Handy Fest show in Florence a few years ago and really enjoyed talking with her.

Dammit! I won't make this one after all. What I thought was an increasingly painful pulled muscle has turned out to be a torn rotator cuff. I'm having it fixed on Thursday, so I don't see a five-hour drive happening on Saturday. TC, I hope to catch up with you and Lurleen at another show. I really e...

No apology necessary. You're thinking of Clams's aunt, who is my friend from a message board from the Band. Your comment didn't register with me, because I couldn't remember ever stating an allegiance here. I am indeed on the Robbie side of the Great Divide. He doesn't travel with me, though. 8-)

I'm thinking about it. I lived in Jackson for a few years and Hal and Mal's is always a good place to hear music. Besides, it's past time to pick up a couple of bottles of comeback sauce.

Re: New Cooley Song - 218 To Denver

Cooley played this one at the show in Birmingham, which I thought was one of the best solo shows of his I've seen. If you haven't seen him solo lately, go if you get the chance. He's developed a really nice fingerpicking style and the Dali Lama t-shirts are pretty cool.

I guess we could bring the thread back around full circle by saying that if you want proof that a person can have a Southern accent, be intelligent, and have an excellent command of language, look no further than Cooley, Patterson, and Jason Isbell,

Re: SOTW 149 - First Air of Autumn

Thanks so much, Cole. It's one of my favorite interviews that I've done, too. I'm glad it came across that way. I enjoyed interviewing Patterson as well, but we did that one over the phone. The one with Cooley could be a case of "third time's the charm." We'd scheduled the first one at a m...

Re: SOTW 149 - First Air of Autumn

This is one of my favorite songs on the album. I love the way that Cooley can use a few phrases to invoke a mood and a moment. Like Clams said, you may not be exactly sure what's going on at every point in the song, but you know what it means. The first verse makes me think of high school football g...

I'm in for Nashville. Couldn't pass up the chance to see them at the Ryman, with the combination of great sound and a seated show. I know most folks aren't fans of the seated venues, but my inner MeeMaw has trouble standing up for a whole show.

Re: Cooley/Birmingham 10/12 - two free tickets

I went and really enjoyed it. Good People beer on tap, good food, and fine music outside on a great fall evening -- not too shabby. This is the third time I've heard Cooley solo and he keeps getting better. His fingerpicking is intricate without being overdone and it really makes one look at familia...

Re: DBT playing in The Shoals

Hi, y'all. Just wanted to clear up something about the taping issue. I talked with the folks who are working with UNA on this yesterday. There's no change in DBT's policy about taping by the audience. The exclusivity thing, as I understand it, has to do with access to certain areas in the auditorium...
