Re: Canceled!

Spent my first 3 years in Boston. Raised by a mother and grandmother from Boston, born in 1901 and 1929. Beans were never a topic of conversation that I remember. This single paragraph from the link sums the whole article up perfectly. We’re a town with a moniker that is meaningless to most resident...

Re: The TV thread

That just might be because it's the best show ever. My people. Shouldn’t be surprised. Have you watched We Own This City yet? I've been saving it for when I'm on vacation for the week of the 4th. Looks terrific and I'm excited to dig into it. It is kind of like a "True Life" version of the Wire. Sa...

Re: Turntable/Record Player advice

Through no virtue of my own, I am about to own most of a really good stereo system, better than anything since I could go into the practice studio and crank it up the house sound. Better really, since I never did have a turntable in there. There's just one thing: No speakers. I was given a couple p...

MMJ has never captured me, but I saw the band’s set at the end of Colbert the other night. The light show was amazing! I think they're the best live band on the planet. Can't wait for them to come through Ohio again. It's been too long I saw them Tuesday in St. Louis. I'm embarrasses to say how man...

Re: The TV thread

Succession has extremely snappy dialog and is hugely entertaining. it's not close to The Wire as those characters had plenty of nuance and there were very many shades of grey between the poles of black and white... everyone on Succession is a despicable scumbag w/ the possible exception of Greg, wh...

I am not sure how anyone who has never seen either could compare this to Dallas. I never saw an episode of Dallas, but was aware enough of the culture to know I had no interest in 80's evening soaps. Succession is the best HBO show since Game of Thrones, or more logically, The Wire. Incredibly subt...

Billions or Succession?

I see some similarities between these 2 shows. Mostly ultra rich, and NY location. But one is vastly superior in my view. Succession is always written about as a parody of the Murdoch's and to some extent it is. But to me it is really a parody of the Trump kids. Don. Jr, Ivanka, and Jared, are clear...

http://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/37DC99zRVWuiiLNzEKVVXS.jpg I was a little wary after the first episode. I thought it was going to be celebrating criminal behavior of children. Just backing up an earlier statement claiming Tatis has done stuff never before in MLB history. Fernando Tatis Jr. picked up the 50th stolen base of his career against the Marlins at loanDepot park, becoming the fastest player in AL/NL history, based on games, to reach 50 home runs and 50 steals in ...

Oh, Tatis has absolutely turned into a beast. If he was putting up these numbers two years ago I wouldn’t have said Jack shit  His base running was out of this world even then. It is his most impressive talent. Last night in the suspended game he tagged from 3rd on a pop up to shallow left, go...

Kid A was my introduction to Radiohead (outside of randomly hearing Creep or High & Dry on the radio), rapidly followed by Amnesiac. They remain, IMO, their apex. Sometimes your intro to an band that you like supersedes everything else they have done. My first Velvet Underground exposure is the liv...

Re: Radiohead The Bends

The Bends is probably their best work, IMO. OK Computer is pretty damn good too, and I think it gets such high marks because it's the transition from the anthemic high point of Radiohead into the weird, tuneless, unlistenable shit that critics raved about and everyone pretends to like. It has some ...

I recently purchased The Bends on vinyl. Never heard Radiohead on vinyl prior to it. Listening to it last night cranked up. It was wonderful. I remember a review when it came out stating it was the album U2 probably wished they made, which was pretty high praise for the time.

Radiohead The Bends

How is OK Computer considered the best album of the 90''s according to so may polls, when The Bends seems so much better to me? I bought OK Computer when it came out, and still have not "got it". Padres looked mighty tough last night against my (sorta) Mariners/Mendozas. Of course, COVID protocols took 4 members of the bullpen out before the game.
