Re: Gillioz Theater, Springfield, MO, Sunday, 10/25

I'm super-stoked about this performance and venue. I went to college in Springfield and in those days the Gillioz was an abandoned dump of a place. It has been painstakingly renovated and now hosts the best live music in town. I live nearby and this will be by far the shortest drive I've ever made f...

Re: St Louis 5/24/13

I think I'm opting for KC over St. Louis. Love the Pageant, but Crossroads is an outdoor venue with lots of hotels in walking distance. Never seen DBT outdoors, or in KC.

Re: Craig Lieske Memorial Thread

I met Craig at my first ever rockshow in Columbia, MO 5 or 6 years ago. My buddy and I were over-exuberant and over-intoxicated, Craig was laughing at all the money we were blowing in the merch booth buying shit for all our friends who didn't come. Patterson was having a rough night onstage, having ...

Any Bass Tabs

DBT bass tabs are hard to find. My little 3-piece band (The Toad Stranglers) plays acoustic arrangements only so Space City, Love Like This, Panties In Your Purse, etc would be very much appreciated.

Any recommendations for good Beale Street BBQ? I don't want just any old tourist trap. The dirtier the better.

Memphis 10/19/2012

Anybody going? I've never seen them in Memphis before. The show is at The New Daisy on Beale Street. Anything I should know about it? Cooley and Hood lived in Memphis at one time, should I expect anything special? This will be my 7th show and my wife's 6th, we're still pups.

Re: RIP George A.

A few years ago when I first starting getting into the music of Drive-By Truckers I was so moved by "Sands of Iwo Jima" I began making more frequent visits to my own grandfather who by that time was bedridden in a nursing home with Parkinson's disease. Like George A he was a hero of WWII (...

Re: St. Louis-The Pageant Oct. 28th

The Columbia show is at the old Missouri Theatre for The Arts. I've never seen a show there. Usually DBT plays at the venerable Blue Note, one of my favorite venues. Not sure why they made the move. From what I can gather there is only beer and wine available (!) and theatre-type seating. I popped f...

Re: St. Louis-The Pageant Oct. 28th

I'm going to the Columbia show the night before, but Mrs. Wine is holding out on the two-night deal. We're staying in Columbia anyway, what could be better than driving on over to St' Louis and spending the afternoon at Blueberry Hill before getting another rock show at the Pageant? Arm twisting con...

Musically, one of their best. A friend of mine (not into the Truckers) said it sounded like Steely Dan playing an Allman Brothers song. That's high praise.

Re: Songs you miss in the set (or have never seen)

I haven't seen "Plastic Flowers" yet. Off topic, kind of, but the very first song they played at the very first rock show I went to was "Shut Up and Get on The PLane." Cooley came out blazing and was wearing, get this, a girl's pink catcher's mask. After the song he said to Patte...

They usually perform at the venerable Blue Note, but this trip they'll play at the old Missouri Theatre of the Arts. The University Concert Series (University of Missouri) is the sponsor. Tickets don't officially go on sale until mid-July but with a $50 donation to the concert series you can buy now...

Shonna puts chicken grease on her bass strings. If these guys had chicken grease in the same room with them they'd probably need counseling.

Re: DBT tracks week 17 - Sands of Iwo Jima

I was just getting into the Truckers and this song in particular when my grandfather neared the end of his life. He wasn't at Iwo Jima, but at a similar hellish battle on a little-known island called Pelelieu. He lost an eye there, and carried shrapnel in his leg the rest of his life. He never talke...
