Re: Supergroup Idea
Now bringing the E Street Band into this just seems unfair. But, yes, those are all wonderful suggestions, too.

Re: Supergroup Idea
I'd love to see Booker T play with them. As for the other two, while they are good suggestions, I was looking for musicians that aren't typically considered to be R&B musicians. Rock musicians who, stepping out of the box, play R&B music.

Re: The Roots of the Drive-By Truckers
I would say that Springsteen is more an influence on Patterson than DBT as a whole, but, as Patterson is the lead frontman and songwriter of the band, I'd say he certainly influences them all in one way or another. As for the R&B: Go-Go Boots as an album would be the obvious illustration of its ...

Supergroup Idea
My idea: there really needs to be a supergroup formed that creates classic, Memphis-style R&B music. Have Patterson Hood on lead vocals and guitar, Luther Dickinson and Jimbo Mathus on vocals and guitar, Chris Chew on bass, and Brad Morgan on drums and you could have something really special. Th...

Re: The Roots of the Drive-By Truckers
I always just assumed the Hall & Oates thing was a joke on their part. Perhaps I'm wrong. If I had to guess what an influences cd would look like, some artists I'd include: Springsteen Eddie Hinton (an obvious choice) Lynyrd Skynyrd Bobby Womack Merle Haggard (I've heard Cooley profess his admir...

Puttin' People on the Moon and SOPA/PIPA
I spent a good portion of today talking/arguing with a person about this SOPA and PIPA legislation, until I realized something: we're arguing about pieces of legislation that, basically, only have financial reprecussions for moguls of one industry versus moguls of another. The fact that Mark Zuckerb...

Re: DBT and West Virginia
Gameday in Morgantown is something special, for sure. I live about three hours from Morgantown, but I try to make it up for at least one or two games a year. Be sure to get there early so you can see the band; WVU has one of the marching bands you'll ever see, and that's not my bias talking, either....

Re: DBT and West Virginia
Please note that my point here is to be observational, not at all argumentative. I grew up and lived in big cities my entire life until I moved to a large suburb of a big city after our 2d child was born. I consider myself urban to the core and I consider myself a DBT fan to the core. Obviously tho...

Re: DBT and West Virginia
Thank you both for your thoughtful replies. To RevMatt, I think it really is a testament to the band's songwriting abilities that they can be so specific in setting and character, but so universal in theme. I was an English major in college, and in my creative writing classes one thing drilled into ...

DBT and West Virginia
This will probably devolve into stream-of-consciousness, so forgive me.... The first time I saw DBT live was in Washington D.C. at the 9:30 Club last February. Saw them both nights of a two night run. My friend and I were the first ones in line that first night, and we were soon greeted by about 10 ...

Extra ticket for 12/31?
Hey guys:
So I have a friend wanting to go to the 12/31 show at the 930 Club. Anybody have an extra ticket they need to get rid of or know where I can find one? Let me know and we can work something out. Thanks.

Re: Pulaski
I always interpreted the ending as her dying from a drug overdose, probably cocaine. She goes to California, it doesn't meet her expectations, falls in with the wrong people. The line about the nose bleeding makes me think of cocaine, a line of cars driving through the night with policemen clearing ...

Jimbo Mathus and the Truckers?
Recently, I've been listening to a lot of Jimbo Mathus, and I've come to the conclusion that, along with Patterson Hood and Mike Cooley, he has to be one of the most creative songwriters currently working. I assume Mathus must have crossed paths with the Truckers by now as he works with Luther Dicki...

For the WV fans.....
If you're a Truckers fan in WV and you have Facebook, you should really check out the Empty Glass-Charleston, WV Facebook page. They're currently having a vote on bands you'd like to see there, and supposedly they will contact the band that comes in with the most votes and ask them to come. The Truc...

Rob Malone?
Anybody know what he's been up to since he left the Truckers?
And, on a side note, why did he leave? Was it his choice or the band's? Thanks.

Re: 'Justice has been done'
RevMatt, That's an interesting point, and it's kinda true for any person who's put on a pedestal--ministers, teachers, police officers, politicians. For some reason, when they fail or 'sin,' people react much more strongly as opposed if it's just a person who works at a grocery store, factory, etc. ...

1. Go-Go Boots (think that it would be awesome if, one day after this tour, they used this as an opener) 2. Where the Devil Don't Stay (always a great song to get things started) 3. Ronnie & Neil 4. The Southern Thing 5. Sounds Better in the Song 6. Your Daddy Hates Me 7. Sinkhole 8. Three Dimes...

'Justice has been done'
So, one Truckers song I've been listening to A LOT lately is "The Fireplace Poker." My favorite line in the song has to be the one that goes something like "Bible says that Jesus bled for the sins of the rest of us; the reverend had his wife done in for fifteen hundred bucks." No...

Well, I wasn't going to join in this chorus of people asking for copies, BUT, since I'm a slave to appearances, if anybody would like to direct me to a copy of a digitized "Your Woman," it'd be most appreciated.

First off, Maluca3 I think I may be one of those West Virginians you're referring to. It was great meeting you guys, as it's always great to run into people from our home state while traveling. Guess we all roll deep. In reference to the show, all I can say is that it was an amazing experience. I've...
