Re: Brooklyn bowl ticket for sale
I've got a ticket for Saturday night at cost. I'll be in attendance both Thursday and Friday if anybody's interested. Give a shout here and we'll make a plan or email me at JMilward@hvc.rr.com

Re: DBT Quarantine Livestreams
The Jayhawks recently did a successful full-band webcast which couldn't help but get me thinking: When are the Truckers going to get together to bring us the closest thing we'll get to a rock show for the foreseeable future?

Re: 2020 Tour Dates! THERE ARE SO MANY
Looks like the Seattle show won't be happening as Washington Governor Inslee is restricting gatherings of more than 250 people. Talk about the unraveling! Take good care, everybody.

Re: 2020 Tour Dates! THERE ARE SO MANY
A line in the previous post caught my attention: "It struck me last night that the song's structure (by which I mean the absence of a chorus) is a really important contributor to making the song work the way it does." A friend who knows how much I love the Truckers once said to me, "why don't they w...

Re: Webster Hall, 2/21
I'm in with a newbie in tow. My third time seeing the Truckers at Webster Hall. The first was the last time I saw them with Jason and was kind of a bummer. Then there was a glorious Big To-Do blow out! And the show you mentioned-- the day after, gasp, I spent my 65th birthday seeing them out in West...

Re: Brooklyn Bowl Six Nights of Setlists June 2019
Caught the Friday and Saturday shows, and while Friday was perfectly fine, Saturday night was a truly memorable rock show blowout. The table was set by the opening set by Adam's House Cat, with the roots of DBT displayed on the opening number, "Lookout Mountain." The quartet sounded tight and punchy...

Re: DBT (and Jason) in Americanaland
Most all of the artists and bands mentioned in this thread have found their way into "Americanaland," including the Grateful Dead (Jerry got his feet wet playing bluegrass), the Rolling Stones (Gram Parsons turned Keith on to Merle Haggard and George Jones, among others), the Band (North Americana?)...

Re: DBT (and Jason) in Americanaland
The Band? You mean the Beatles of Americana? And by the way, the Fabs themselves are in the book, being lovers of Buddy Holly, Buck Owens, and getting (literally) turned on by Bob Dylan.

Re: DBT (and Jason) in Americanaland
For what it's worth, I'm doing my best to not get stuck in the weeds of defining "Americana" in my book, which would be comparable to trying to give a precise definition to "world music." In fact, "Americana" was created as a promotional handle to market records that fell between radio formats. So w...

DBT (and Jason) in Americanaland
I’m on the homestretch of writing a book called “Americanaland” (for University of Illinois Press) about that most amorphous of musical genres, Americana. The later chapters of the book will include coverage of Uncle Tupelo/Wilco, Whiskeytown/Ryan Adams, and Drive By Truckers/Jason Isbell. I’d appre...

Re: June/July shows: Brooklyn x 6 (!), Toronto x 3, etc.
Still debating my Brooklyn plans-- figure three nights over the two weekends-- but mourn the fact that the shut-down L train is going to make it a big pain in the butt to get there from Manhattan. From Greenwich Village, looks like I'll have to go north for 42d street, switch trains to Queens, and t...

Re: Woodstock, NY (The Colony)
I was initially disappointed that Woodstock would not be treated to a full-bore rock show, but having played with my own band at the Colony, I did wonder how DBT could modulate its wall-of-guitars to not overwhelm the relatively small club. The "dirt underneath" solution proved to be the right call,...

Re: Woodstock, NY (The Colony)
A writer friend of mine hit up Patterson for tix to the Colony and emailed me the info that because of the size and configuration of the club, they're likely to play and acoustic show. Kind of bummed, but then again, I haven't seen an acoustic show since the tour that followed Jason's departure. And...

Re: Woodstock, NY (The Colony)
Counting the days on one hand until the Truckers play my home town. Feeling a little bad that that there are tickets still left for a venue that claims a capacity on the shy side of 400 (and that would be one very packed house). In any event, this is by far the smallest venue in which I've seen the ...

Re: Brooklyn Bowl 3/29/18 & 3/30/18
On the subject of repertoire repeats, it's worth noting that Patterson repeated just one song from Thursday night, "Ronnie and Neil," and gave a different tip on Friday with the "Days of Graduation" prelude. Cooley repeated five, and while I would be loathe to delete either "Ramon Casiano" or "Surre...

Re: New 2018 Tour Dates
Slight correction: a friend tells me he thinks they can squeeze 300 into the Colony without tables on the floor. Still, by far the smallest place (besides Levon's barn) that I've ever seen them play. Curious about how they're going to handle the sound in my hometown venue.

Re: New 2018 Tour Dates
"By the time we got to Woodstock." The Truckers have slipped a Thursday July 5 date at the Colony in Woodstock between Tedeschi Trucks gigs in Saratoga and Hartford. (My band plays the first Thursday of every month at a pizza joint in Woodstock. Think July might call for a "second-Thursday" gig.) Th...

Re: Port Chester,NY
I must admit that the announcement of a webcast of the Port Chester show had me hesitating about making a four-hour roundtrip when I could watch the rock show from the couch. But something about this hellish week got me into the car, and the Truckers made good on Patterson's opening wish that "we le...

Re: Asheville, NC - 9/22 & 9/23 - Orange Peel 2017
Sounds like a great show, but must ask a silly question: Does Cooley ever not play "Marry Me?" Put another way, since I've seen the Truckers a paltry 31 times, how many times have I heard "Marry Me?" (I'm guessing high twenties.)

Patterson sadly noted the death of Grant Hart of Husker Du during the introduction to an especially emotional "World of Hurt." More on the Truckers at Americanafest when I get north of the Mason-Dixon Line.

I know this is a relative pittance on TDD, but Tuesday at the Egg will be my 30th rock show. The sentimentalist in me will be hoping for a favorite from the early days (Carl Perkins' Cadillac) and something from the middle (Mercy Buckets). The realist will just be happy to be at the big to-do.

Surprised to see that the band'll be back at The Egg in Albany (they played a sweet, albeit under-attended show there during the 'English Oceans' tour). Re: DBT--7/13/2016--Free in NYC
A great show indeed, but to my mind, nowhere near as incendiary as the second (Monday) night show in Brooklyn a few months back (evoked, in my mind, by last night's familiar combo of "English Oceans" and "The Righteous Path"). Don't hate me-- I was a rock critic in a previous life, and love this ban...

Psyched! Fondly remember the summertime show DBT did at Castle Clinton: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UuuMPYIlGII As for crowd, etc., the night of the Castle Clinton show (a smaller space), we got on line at 5pm and scored seats pretty close to the stage. Expect a similar scene, though this outdoo...

In for both nights. I'm told that the hall is much like the Bowery Ballroom, with a capacity of 550. Should make for a cozy rock show.
