Re: New songs thread
I'm almost wishing I hadn't sought out "Slow Ride Argument", because now I'm worried I'm going to play it out before the album rolls out... love it... has that feel of a Cooley classic... having said that, I haven't burned out on any of his other songs yet...

Sorry for the duplicate thread... but looks like we were all on the same wave length. I grew up in Twin Lakes. Grandfather lives in Fox Lake. In Lake Geneva now... What's interesting is that, while this was going on, there was a separate manhunt affecting northern Lake County and Kenosha County... a...

Fox Lake, Illinois
Apologies if this is insensitive, but it's local for me and I've become a bit desensitized to it... But: I feel like we should be playing Drive by Trucker bingo with this cop out of Fox Lake, Illinois: 1. Cop/used to be a cop? check 2. Tried to hire someone to kill someone? Check 3. Betrayed the pub...

Re: Screw it if nobody else will.....Austin Roll Call
I was on a business trip in Austin... randomly looked up local shows Thursday night... HOLY SHIT, DBT in town. Finished up with client business and got to the venue 4 songs in... I'm guessing the set was a bit shorter because it was a (great) outdoor venue in a residential area. They finished right ...

That's good; funny, too. Hopefully I'm missing something in translation, being a Brit and all, but if the inference here is that Cooley is joking about hitting a woman why is that funny?[/quote] It is definitely a translation thing. "Hitting that" is an urban-American, hip-hop originated ...

Elephant doesn't bring the water works. But I agree that, once fatherhood came, I turned into a blubbering idiot. Songs that do it: 1. Little Bonnie 2. Two Daughters and a Beautiful Wife 3. Daughter by Loudon Wainwright 4. Wedding Song by Bob Dylan There are others... basically any dumb country song...

Regular lurker, coming out of the shadows for this. Man did this hit me hard today. What a supreme fucking talent.
This wasn't an official release, but for my money, this is one of the greatest marriages of song and video. Ever. A tough listen tonight.

Re: ABAAC Theory
The strongest argument for Jason having the "best song on an album" would have to be Decoration Day - while that album is packed with classics from beginning to end, I think both Decoration Day and Outfit are the heart and soul of that album. "Where the Devil Won't Stay", "C...

As someone else said, this decade marks my time from 11 to 21, so a major formative phase... putting together a list will take some time... Having said that, I'm going to call shenanigans. I'm almost entirely ashamed of their work in the 00s, so it's hard to be too enthusiastic, but there's got to b...

LIVE - I'm embarrassed to watch the lead singer perform, but goddamn if Mental Jewelry, Throwing Copper and Secret Samadhi isn't a great trio of albums from the mid 90s.

It is a testament to their talent and storytelling abilities that Chester feels a lot closer to us than he really was. Patterson paints such a compelling image of the man that you really feel like you know his character.

the more enigmatic line is the fact the brother "was the first born [who] got 10 fingers and 10 toes" Agreed that that's the more puzzling line. I take it to mean that the brother is "otherwise normal" (got 10 fingers and 10 toes just like the rest of us) despite being gay. I th...

Kudos to the band for not letting it demoralize them. They came out rocking on Friday night in L.A.

There was a dude just to the right of me who had a camera running on a little mono-pod type deal for most of the show, so I suspect we'll get some youtube footage out of this one sooner or later.
