Re: Artist of the Week 5/3/2011- R.E.M. 1982-1985

Not much else left off except apparently some goofy covers (e.g., "Spooky"). But that stuff is what like about the 1991 shows, including the Borderline shows.

I'm guessing the mountain stage show makes the out of time reissue, although I'd love an official release of the borderline shows.

Re: Artist of the Week 5/3/2011- R.E.M. 1982-1985

The Unplugged CD comes out in a few weeks and I haven't yet talked myself into buying it. Did anyone pick up the vinyl? Is it worth it? I have a good-sounding copy of the 2001 sessions, so I'd really only be getting the 1991 version. It bugs me that neither set is really the "complete sessions,...

Vinyl would cost too much. In a just world, this record would sell thousands of copies and justify a release in multiple formats, but this ain't a just world.

Awesome. I'll be glad to finally have a legit copy of the first album, which has been out of print for almost 20 years. Love these guys, and both those records are classics.

I don't want to seem ungrateful but, the 97's again? I will hopefully make the TLA show. Saw them there on new years day a while back. I feel the same way and a lot of bitching from 97's fans about DBT on the ticketmaster concert reviews pages Funny thing is, I love both bands and wish they'd play ...

Re: BEATLES 45 years ago tonight in Saint Louis

That's an interesting question. To make it worth their while playing smaller venues, they'd have had to jack up ticket prices quite a bit. But my guess is that most concertgoers back then were teenagers and younger adults without a lot of money. It's not like today, where "classic rock" ba...

Thanks!

I checked out their songs online last week after Jason Isbell tweeted about them. They sound fantastic and should be a perfect opener for DBT.

Nice work as usual, cortez. Oddly enough, I just read this page the other day about all the references to the pre-war St. Louis blues scene in "Outside the Door." m Like you, it took me awhile to get into Sebastopol. It wasn't until I heard these songs live (both by Son Volt and by Farrar/...

have you ever had a seat where your sight line was obstructed by a mic stand? i have (wilco in concord last year), and it was very annoying. No, but that would definitely be annoying at a seated show. My experience with tapers has been at GA venues where the club either actively designates a tapers...

Re: Taping and File Trading: Helpful or Hurtful?

Lots of shades of gray here. I try to be conscientious about how my purchases (and non-purchases) affect the bottom line of artists I care about, but it's hard. I have several copies of music that friends have given me to try. Sometimes I end up liking the band and purchasing their music, in which c...

Two things: 1. MSTaper--thank you very much for your recordings. I have several of them, and they're all top-notch. To the extent that Jason might be concerned about quality of stuff in circulation, he's definitely not talking about yours. 2. Re: quality, if the choppy video is a problem, Jason coul...

Re: Jason Isbell No Longer Allowing Taping Of His Concerts

This is disappointing. I'd be surprised if sound quality were really the reason for this decision. I've not heard any of Jason's recent shows (although I hope to catch him in DC next month), so I don't know how they sound, but the ones I got a few years ago sounded great. It seems that the bands tha...

For those of you planning to use Metro to/from the show, looks like major track work next weekend. m The green/yellow lines (which go to the club) shouldn't be affected, except that last-call will be 30 minutes earlier than usual.
