Re: The New OK - 10/2/2020 (Vinyl 12/18)
Count me as another who likes this better than The Unraveling. Which is not a slight on The Unraveling at all. But The New OK is tonally a lot more friendly and inviting, and there's stylistic diversity than there has been on a DBT album in a while, which I'm really digging. Seems odd to call it a f...

Re: NPR piece from Patterson
I forget how long ago this was, but do you remember the Nazi march in Skokie? If not I'll be happy to provide some, errrrr, context ;) The ACLU represented the Nazis and supported their right to march. So did I. Am I correct in thinking you wouldn't? This is the distillation of the means v. ends ak...

Re: NPR piece from Patterson
Appreciate the thorough responses, Bubba. Ultimately I think we basically agree on 99% of this issue. These companies are not our friends, they are not doing any of this to be noble - they just want good press and to make a buck. And the specific nature of the "context" they might provide could stil...

As everyone whoever watched TV knows, lawyers are obligated to represent clients needing representation. One of the great constantly repeating debates of law students everywhere in the States is would you represent Hitler? The usual answer is "no, there is undoubtedly someone else who will so I don...

Re: NPR piece from Patterson
Patterson is spot on re: Gone with the Wind. Though I understand why some might be squeamish about what he wrote in the op-ed, I wish he didn’t have to explain himself. I studied Triumph of the Will and Birth of a Nation in school, where they could be placed in the proper context: as masterful piece...

I don’t envy you Facebook folks; I can only imagine the shitstorm this is causing over there. Personally I find it hard to imagine the name has caused much harm or offense to anyone - other than possibly the band themselves, by turning off potential fans who might assume they’re a novelty act. But I...

Re: Jason Isbell - Reunions
I agree with TC. Only a couple of listens in but I think it’s good. Unlike many of you I’ve liked most of Jason’s post-Southeastern work, but Reunions is at least more adventurous than the last couple of records. It’s also the first Jason album since Here We Rest that is at all congruent with DBT’s ...

Finally got around to watching. Delightful and comforting. Loved hearing all the deep cuts and 3DDer shout outs. As well as admiring all the nice art in Patterson’s attic. Looking forward to the DBT birthday show - that should be super interesting.

So how badly did we fuck it up? - No "Like a Hurricane"??????????????? - "Round & Round (It Won't Be Long)"???????????????] I’m as baffled as you are. Like a Hurricane was near the top of my personal list and Round & Round was nowhere near it. I’ve heard Homegrown, before it got delayed. It’s worth...

I too have been following and loving these write-ups, Cortez. I haven’t paid much attention to the post-reunion stuff because there’s been so much of it and most of what I have heard hasn’t grabbed me much. Plus Half Smiles felt like such a perfect swan song to me that it seems a shame to pile on so...

Grammatical nit: Either "no two of them sound alike" or "not one of them sounds like any other." I am ashamed. I blame lack of sleep and/or my editor. I really don't think facial hair would be a good look for Cooley. I think he rocked the goatee pretty well during the Dirt Underneath era: https://c...

Thanks, Patterson. Just want to briefly stick my own head in and say that this... It’s our greatest sounding record by a long shot. ...is definitely true. People can complain about the songs if they want, I guess, but I think this is DBT's first true piece of sonic art. Like, Rosemary With a Bible a...

Why anyone uses Facebook for any reason whatsoever at this point in history beyond looking up tour dates or restaurant menus is utterly beyond me. Much less to discuss DBT. You might as well be smearing shit on a wall. Anyway it's hard for me to imagine a DBT not liking this song musically, but what...

Of all the songs on the album I've heard them play live (so everything but that second Cooley song), this one has always been my favorite, and the studio version delivers. Love that little guitar lick Cooley (?) is doing, and Jay's piano is sublime.

Lastly, and I think this goes for a lot of us "regulars", the weekend is not all about the shows. Yes, I go to all of them, but I believe I could go and not attend and be good. It is more about the friends you have made over the years and in many case only see a few times a year. The meet up, Nuci'...

Well Emily and I are out this year and I for one am fine with a couple of newbies going in our place. Everyone who wants to should be able to go Homecoming at least once. This has the potential to be one of the most memorable events in Heathens history. Wish I could go (to the Rock Show and this) but the mental image of you lot hanging out at a drag show is reward enough.
